Hello everyone,

I’m looking to assemble a team of game developers interested in creating an action-RPG project for portfolio, hobby, and revenue share if we will decide to release/sell it after.

The primary goals would be to build a team and grow our skill sets, getting experience along the way of actually building something playable and interesting.

In terms of my skills - I have been a software developer for over 6 years prior to my current job in analytics, and can do programming. Along with that, I have a degree in Game Design, and a Degree in Business Management.

My Skills & Experience:

In terms of my experience in Game Dev specifically - I had previously worked on a project with an indie team, that had lasted 4 years (though 5 years were planned), however this project was put on hold by the team leaders due to a change of circumstances in their lives, as far as we were aware. I’ve primarily worked in Game Design (so, apart from writing up the documentation and keeping it updated at all times, like GDD, I had also provided support to the programmers when needed and had played around with some environment art, using the models provided by the 3D guys of the team, and level design).

I’m familiar with the Unreal Engine and the C++ programming language along with Blueprints for UE.

While I would have love to continue working on that 5-year planned project, it’s not possible to do so alone, so unless it’ll be revived, no such luck. But I hope this, at least, serves as an example that I will stay around for a long time.

The Project:

I’ve made quite a few notes in my notepad and will be starting to form a concept document shortly (looking at the upcoming weekend), however, I’ll attach a brief description below.

In terms of Genre an action-RPG in a Science Fiction setting.

In terms of influences - possibly “The Swarm” (a short story by Bruce Sterling); “Beyond the Aquila Rift” (Alastair Reynolds), then such franchises as Star Trek, Star Wars, Alien Covenant, Mass Effect games

Here’s the brief overview:

————————————

The key faction of the game would be The Enclave. Main Character (later will be knows as The Curator) would have been one of the people that had been working with the enclave and was tasked with exploring one of the realms, following its discovery.

However, as the main character had been offered passage by the Endathari (a race) (most advanced space travel), something had gone wrong, and their ship was trapped in an entirely different realm, unknown to the Enclave or the Endathari (which would be surprising since that race is a kind of traders/travellers and have visited quite a few places).

Their initial target would be to return, however they will come to learn that a return home isn’t possible, therefore they’ll have to make a new life at the realm they’re in.

They would have to explore, build connections with new races, establish outposts, establish a newer version of the enclave and settle here, while facing danger from the hostile species.

————————————

More is drafted though (especially game mechanics), however, I still need to transform that from my notepad into the laptop’s word doc.

Art Style - Realistic/Semi-realism.

In terms of the Engine - Unreal Engine.

Skills wanted:

I’m really open to all skills levels. Even if you’re looking to learn/gain experience - not an issue at all.

Writer: someone to help with the worldbuilding and narrative direction

Game Designer: while I’ll be dedicating as much time into this area as physically possible, it would be great to have another game designer (whether experienced, or a new learner), to help share the workload

2D Artist: someone who can create either environment artwork, characters, or creatures/monsters (I understand that artists have their own preferences and areas of expertise/comfort zone)

3D Artist: someone who can create environment models, or character work. For an initial prototype/vertical slice we can cut some corners with metahumans and quixel megascans.

Animator: someone who is able to create simple animations for various actions in the game. I have some 3D animations in already, but there’s still quite a bit to work with/through.

C++ Programmer/Blueprints: another developer to help split the workload. The project will be in a mixture of C++ and Blueprints, so either a programmer that had worked with either, or a developer willing to learn would be fantastic.

Environment Artist: someone to give us a hand on setting up the scene (level design I should be able to give a hand on, so only the environment)

Sound Engineer/Composer: someone to help us set-up the sound direction from early stages and a composer to help with OST’s

Project Manager: I will be able to be around the team and work on this project on a basis of 4 days full time, however in the remaining 3, I’ll be available via messages and will be able to dedicate a few hours per working day. However, having someone around in project management would be great, so that I can rely on someone to step up and help whenever I’m not around.

Additional Notes:

While I’m not expecting to find devs for all roles above, I can guarantee that the scope of the project will shrink or grow accordingly to our team’s capacity. So, by the end of the day, if we will need to cut the scope to make it done - we will.

In terms of how many hours a week you can put into this - entirely up to you, as I understand that everyone has jobs, university studies, etc. We will work around, so this shouldn’t cause an issue.

That’s all I have for now, thank you for reading this post.
