This doesn't work for me, all I can see is a pink and black checkerboard on title screen. New game shows nothing.

when i try to start the game i get a error message saying that its not a valid format, what do i do ?

For Pink and black checkerboard texture fix, try making sure you half life 2 and all the episodes installed.
