YAARRGH! Battle Island! Is a randomly seeded procedural generated Pirate Battle Island arena, with action-packed Coop, Ai wave combat, where players can mine, build & craft their way to victory. As a small indie studio of two, we've set our sights on turning YAARRGH! into an endless procedural sandbox game. However, navigating the vast seas of game development comes with its challenges. Not only do we lack the manpower, but the resources to fund such an ambitious project. But fear not, for a pirate never backs down from a challenge! Our plan is as cunning as a pirate's map – we'll start by creating YAARRGH! Battle Island! If our maiden voyage proves successful, we'll set sail for even grander horizons with YAARRGH! Me Matey!, transforming it into a full-fledged Pirate Sandbox Experience.

This year we are hard at work making the YAARRGH! Prototype into a free single player early access game for everyone to enjoy, with our own models and textures, plus our new in game world type inventory and crafting systems.

When I first made the prototype voxel engine for the game, at the time there was no support for multi-threaded CPU applications in Unity, so we created our own code for multi-threaded core CPU’s, doing this allow our voxel engine to create Islands with about 10 to 30 million voxels using less than 2GB RAM.

The YAARRGH! Game world uses voxels for Terrain, Ocean, Lava and Lighting and in our prototype game you can see this for yourself or in the video, when I accidentally dug a tunnel into the ocean, which in turn flooded the tunnel up to sea level, rendering the mine useless.

In 2018 Unity released multi-threading support for gaming, plus advance hardware level access support as well, so over the last couple of weeks from the making of this video, I have been developing and incorporating the Unity multi-threading code into our game projects, this is great news moving forward for YAARRGH!

I have been building and testing the prototype game of YAARRGH! On my Intel i5 3.2ghz 4 core CPU with a Nvida GeForce GTX 760 running at 60fps, but the voxel world needs more speed, so with multi-threaded hardware access support released by Unity, things are going to get a whole lot faster.
