Open world sounds awesome. But the necessary chore I think would be troublesome. While level based, I don't know, but I believe level based is better for some reason.
Open world sounds better.
I feel open world, but there are lot of open world games out there now (main ones being Rust, Forest...). It would be cool to see maybe a new approach on open world, or something new to really distinguish this game from others. (Of course that would be very very difficult to find/figure out, but best of luck!)
Also there's a really good sorta-horror atmosphere going on so maybe if you wanted to throw in some "level based" stuff, you could have the goal to escape something? (Idk, either way, really good what you have so far!)
