Wrath Against Time is a beat em’ up inspired by the spirit of old school games and saturday morning cartoons from our childhoods. We wanted to make something that felt like it belonged in the Sega Genesis era, today. That led us to a game that was fully 2D, entirely drawn by hand, vibrant and colourful. An adventure that felt light-hearted without being chained to that mood always. In gameplay it meant lots of things, but in a word, variety. Repetition is the final boss of all beat em ups, so our answer was a time travel premise, allowing for drastic variety in level settings, enemy types, music styles, characters...you name it. Four fighters from across time fight together to reclaim their homes and save their people, using individual strikes, grabs, special attacks, and defensive abilities. Add to that, unlockable attacks and techniques, weapons, co-op moves, and special items that can be freely combined to pull off all manner of abilities. We hope to make a game we can all love!

For this update we’ll take a peek at the setting, premise, and characters of Wrath Against Time.

Some god-damned shape shifting aliens have used a recently discovered technology to travel through time and abduct pockets of civilization. Why only from Earth, and to what end is unclear, but many have been taken already, beamed aboard the massive mothership Soteira. Meanwhile, stowed away within the ship itself, an unusual pair of scientists- one human, one alien- work together to return things to how they were. With most succumbing to the mind-control Soteira induces, they have been forced to bide their time; but finally opportunity knocks. Four have been found.

> This setting, involving multiple time periods was chosen to inject variety into our beat em up. Before even getting into gameplay, variety can be found in levels, enemies, music, bosses, weapons and so on.

Four have been found from across time. The brutal savage past, an ideal distant future, ancient feudal japan, and a ruined near future. All should have been victims along with their homes and people, but each was saved by the efforts of the stow away scientists. Now they work together to reclaim their homes, save their people and crush the alien threat.

Much work has been done on Wrath Against Time already. The focus now is on polish and expanding content. Polish in the way of smoothing out animation, mechanics and gameplay. Expanding content in the way of adding more bosses, attacks, weapons and so on. Updates from here on out will feature a mix of work done so far, combined with content mentioned above as we complete it.
