"Working Title - A text-based RPG/Adventure game."

Different name, same game, but now with 1138% less Star Wars.

After some consultation, decided that it was probably be better to play it safe and not reference or use any Star Wars IP; Other projects in existence seem to be doing OK, but I thought I'll change it while it's no big deal to do so.

Anyway, a description now.............

Over the last decade, more and more games are placing a greater emphasis on looking pretty and having 'feature-packed' game-play.

This would be a good thing, except that, in pursuit of these goals, developers now mostly shun that most fundamental trait of a good game; Story Telling.

Every once in a while, we are reminded of what a good and involving story can mean for a game - 'Skyrim', the first 'Borderlands' and 'Tomb Raider - but, for the most part, we get thrown a new Call Of Duty or Battlefield game every year, play its dull campaign once and then invest hours in multi-player game modes.

Which is fine for the people that enjoy that sort of thing - it would be silly of me to say that those people don't exist, for, without them, neither would these games - but what about those of us who don't?

Those, for whom the original COD - with it's multi-perspective campaign full of replay value - will always be the best of the franchise?

Those whom cannot be sold a game just because it looks prettier - or has more buttons to press - than an otherwise identical game?

I am one of those people, and this is a game I am making for others like me.

This certainly won't be a ground-breaking project, but I hope that, by being able to focus solely on the basics, I'll be able to make something fun.

Hi all.

So, biggest change this week: This is no longer a Star Wars themed game.

After consulting those knowledgeable in the area of Intellectual Property, I decided that it's better to play it safe now than risk a nasty surprise later on.

Making the change now was pain-free, requiring only the renaming of the Planet and Location objects I had so far.

This is actually a good thing, as it allows me a bit more freedom with things like Planet and Location names, as well as definitions of in-game Organisations and Manufacturers.

After that, I added the framework for Spacecraft; They all are built around a set of attributes such as 'speed', 'armour' and 'cargo capacity' and they can have either 1,2,3 or 4 weapons.

Oh yeah, I also added the framework for Weapon and Cargo objects.

Weapon objects have attributes such as 'Type', 'Range', 'Damage' and 'Fire Rate' and Cargo objects are built on attributes of, among other things, their 'Mass', their 'Legality', 'Worth' and how likely it is that, with a particular Cargo, you'll run into a Customs inspection vessel......or worse.

I've also begin creating a 'GameConstants' XMl file - a WIP shot of which serves as the image for this news item; In this file will be a whole variety of user modifiable 'things' that fall under the 'Misc' category.

And, after further exploring some GUI concepts as a part of my studies, I'm thinking of doing one for this game.

It's not going to turn into anything fancy mind you, just simple things like being able to click buttons instead of typing commands.

So yeah....TL;DR: No Star Wars, haz ships/cargo/weapons/, might get buttons.

I will say this much, it makes me sick that you have put so little effort into this game. This isn't how you make a good batch game.

I can tell that you have a terrific grasp of what this actually is, and where it is in it's development; I'd go so far as to say that your understanding is better than my own.

I promise to consult you before I undertake any future endeavours, not only those which are a part-time piece of self-amusement but, indeed, those which are of mind-boggling significance.
