Volund will be a top-down medieval fantasy 2D MMORPG. We want the game to be like playing a multiplayer version of classic RPGs such as Lufia, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, etc. Movement will be tiled based, but everything will be real-time rather than turn based. This includes battles, so there won't be a separate battle screen.

That's about as much as we know at the moment :) We are currently at the start of pre-production, so there are infinite possibilities at the moment; a lot of different ideas are being prototyped. We occasionally livestream as we work on the game. When we're live, drop on in and say "hi" :)

Volund Livestream - 2D MMORPG Game Development

Today's game development livestream is starting at 8:30am PST! The livestream documents our work on Volund, the medieval fantasy 2D MMORPG.

Schedule

On today’s livestream, Mike will be finishing the “grabber dragged along” mechanic. The only thing that’s left to be done is reducing the movement speed of the grabbed character.

After that, the grabbing mechanics will be tested under normal networking conditions. What this means is that Jake and Mike will be testing the game on the private staging site. Up until now, the grabbing mechanics have only been tested on a local network, so things might break when testing over the internet.

There will be the usual break at 12:00pm PST, but we’ll return at 1:00pm and be streaming all the way till 5:00pm PST!

This looks quite interesting. I'd love to play this if this is eventually done & released. Will it be free or paid? ;-) Not that it does matter, I'd love to pay for this actually.

I really enjoy all the games by ifthensoftware, starting with loradon. My only real complaint is how their games are always left hanging, usually right when they begin to get really good, just for a whole new game to start. Personally I'd really love to see Volund go somewheres. Will this game be any different, or will it just stay in developing forever, for a new project to take it's place?

Howdy! The game caught my eyes, huge fan of 2D MMORPGs sadly most of them suck. I've got a few questions. Will you be implementing a paperdoll system? What kind of character customization can we look forward to? Armors? Hairs? Weapons? What kind of combat system? Point to move/attack or more of a keyboard action type?

There likely won't be a paperdoll system, at least not to start with. There will be armor and weapons, and probably also different looking characters. Combat won't be based on an auto attack; you will have to tell your character to make each swing. The keyboard will be used for the most part. It will be similar to one of our other games, Volund, which you can checkout here: Volundgame.com
