Players will be able to choose quests in their starting city and can take jobs hunting monsters, searching for supplies in large, flooded cities, extracting ore for the city to use, and excavating wreckages for possible ships to be used later.
Players can enter and leave their ship at will (as some parts of the ocean such as caves and buildings may be too narrow for your ship to fit in), and I plan to have it that they can upgrade their armor, oxygen tanks, masks, and weapons by either purchasing parts or gathering the required materials yourself.
Later in the game, Ships will be customizable, allowing players to swap out different weapon types, adding enhancements to the ship, upgrading the speed or durability of the ship, as well as the potential to buy/find other types of ships.
Due to global warming in the 21st-22nd century, over 99.8% of the world has become flooded, resulting in very little pockets of land being available and resources even more scarce. Due to this, society was forced to revert back to the age of steam (using solar power and methane housing as heating methods for the steam). Modern Governments were eventually eradicated during this time, and the world eventually adopted a loosely based Monarchy, with kings and barons ruling over their respective islands.
Due to resources being scarce on land, eventually Guilds were formed where "Steam Divers" would take on jobs to gather food, minerals, or "old" technology for their domain in return of being paid and being viewed as heroes in their city.
The story starts with a new Steam Diver Cadet, who finally earns his first one-man exploration pod, and how he grows to become the greatest Steam Diver to ever exist.
