Twisty's Asylum Escapades is a dark, 3D, single player, action adventure video game.

You play as Twisty; the evil, disembodied floating brain with a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, as he makes his way through this bizarre mental facility, fighting enemies and solving puzzles in order to secure his own ''early release'' from the asylum. The emphasis is on exploration with a fair amount of combat (mostly melee), and of course plenty of dark humor.

Twisty's Asylum Escapades was made by a two man team, one artist and one programmer and is our first game. We hope that you enjoy it!

Features:
- Seven different attacks and items to obtain and use.
- Nine different types of enemies to fight.
- Two types of friendly minions to bend to your will.
- A massive three story building to explore with multiple hallway systems, large rooms and secret passages.
- Persistent blood, creepy music and various supernatural happenings.

We very much enjoy exploring things from the villain's/monster's perspective and that is a big part of what went into Twisty's Asylum Escapades. One of mankind's oldest basic types of stories is that of a hero going down into a dark place to face a monster. Going at least as far back as Beowulf, these kinds of tales have been a staple of storytelling throughout human history.

Even some of the first, popular video games have utilized this basic premise; games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. It's the idea of a hero having to go down into a dungeon and face a monster or a threat. In fact, it's likely because of this familiar trope, that the word "dungeon" has become a common gaming term.

Twisty's Asylum Escapades is designed to be an inversion of this classic premise. Instead of playing as a hero going down into a dark place; you're the monster coming up out of it. Playing as, and ultimately empathizing with a villainous character can offer a different perspective and make people think a little bit more and hopefully make things more compelling for anyone experiencing the game.

Moral decisions are nothing new in video games, but in this game there is no such decision. You simply play as the monster. This isn't a game where a human is going around killing monsters, or even other "evil" humans. This is a game where a monster is basically mauling hospital staff which are trying to more or less do their jobs by keeping him contained; supposedly for the good of society at large.

Of course we realize that some people won't understand this premise, as this type of villainous protagonist approach can be very divisive. Some may jump into the part enthusiastically, while others may not. It should be noted that some effort was made to make this premise more palatable by doing things like designing the enemy characters to be cartoonier and in some cases giving them oversized weapons to make them look more threatening.

One thing that we can learn from games like this is that morality is ultimately subjective. Humans seem to have a natural tendency to assume that they are in the right and history has shown that we have an almost limitless capacity to justify anything. No matter what we're doing we always assume that we're the good guys. And if we happen to find ourselves playing a game where we're represented by an avatar that is a floating murderous brain, I'm sure that there are many of us that are willing to embrace it and have fun exploring that role.

My let's play -> Youtu.be

This game is pretty great. It has a very retro feel to it and I found myself playing for about an hour after I recorded. Great job!

For being an evil floating brain, Twisty is actually really likable. My only complaint is that if you don't have minions you take a large amount of damage from enemies. Other then that I loved this game!

Thank you for the review! We're very happy that you linked the retro feel Twisty's Asylum Escapades. Many aspects of the game are very much a nod to games of previous generations.

Twisty's Asylum Escapades is still under active development. The reason we haven't put out any news or articles in a while is actually because it is still being developed. Due to being only a two man team, any time spent writing about our development is time we're not actually developing.

We're currently working on a massive update for the game and will begin blogging and promoting again after the update's release.
