You can't run from the past. But what if you could change it? Tumbling Apart is a game of one man's guilt over the harrowing fate that has befallen his sister, and his desperate journey across time to fix it. Inspired by other narrative focused games such as "To the Moon" and "Life is Strange," this artistic 2D RPG tackles themes and raises questions previously unexplored in the burgeoning genre.

A new video is up explaining what makes Tumbling Apart unique in an ocean of independent games.

Posted by on

There’s a sea of games out there.

So why does Tumbling Apart deserve your attention?

It’s a valid question. With such a saturated market, gamers have more options than ever. While this is a great deal for us, it can also be overwhelming. On the flip side, you can find yourself drowning in an ocean of titles, unsure of what is truly deserving of your time. I understand this dilemma, and will lay out a few reasons why Tumbling Apart is not only worthy of your time, but is as an upcoming game that you will enjoy and remember for long after you’ve completed it.

On a side note, a picture is worth a thousand words, so a video has to be worth ten thousand, right? If you’re not much of a reader, check out this newly released video of narrated gameplay that explains the unique features of the game.

The above gif is of YouTuber StikerMunster (who’s channel you should check out, by the way) after completing the playable demo. Yes, those things that existed a decade ago. As a developer I still believe in them, because I believe in the game, and I want people to play it. I want you to have the reaction she had. Isn’t that what we’re all chasing in our gaming exploits? If you’re interested, you can find the demo here:

Hand drawn animations

Tumbling Apart will feature over 3,000 hand drawn animations. Story rich games often fall into the trap of feeling very "static". This isn't the case with Tumbling Apart. NPCs, the world around you, and Isaac all come to life and give breath to an existence that is bursting with humanity. Humans are visual by nature- it's our primary sense. Why wouldn't you use that as a tool to enhance this story of life, love, and fate?

Isaac occupies a unique and varied world

Head to our wesbite. On the front page, you'll see a small collection of pics and gifs demonstrating the huge variety of scenery within Tumbling Apart. Vibrant colors, animated weather, and interactive surroundings all combine into nearly a dozen unique "maps" that will ensure you never get tired of the visuals and are always surprised by what is coming next.

This world is a story, and Isaac is desperate to tell it

Above all, Tumbling Apart’s main component is the story- the narrative. Independent studios do not have the resources to compete visually with AAA studios, so how can they compete? By bringing innovative ideas to the table. By grabbing your hand and leading with a story that won’t let go. In the gaming world, graphics don’t stand the test of time. Rehashes come and go. But tantalizing stories, beautifully imagined worlds, and memorable characters never die.

If Tumbling Apart stays in your heart for months after you’ve finished it, then I’ve done my job. And that’s what I’m aiming to do. You will remember Isaac and McKenna.
