Torgar’s Quest is a roguelike action-rpg with old school elements, like pixel art graphics, a top-down view and turn-based gameplay. It tells the story of one ambitious dwarf, and his search for recognition and power. To achieve this, he seeks to find the seven shards of the lost Mastery Crystal. But Torgar is also a little bit crazy. Maybe that is why he entered the Deepgold Mine in nothing but his underwear, carrying only a light lunch...

If found, the Mastery Crystal will give Torgar immense power, but seeking it may destroy his soul in the process. The longer you take to win, and the deeper into the dungeon you go, the worse it gets for poor Torgar. If he doesn’t lose his life, he may well lose his mind!

Torgar’s Quest launches exclusively on Steam (Windows/Mac), May 31st 2016. The regular sale price is $5.99. The game will launch with an early bird 10% discount.

Main game features

  • 3 difficulty levels. Normal is for people who might be new to roguelikes or prefer a more casual game, Hard is for seasoned players, and Nightmare is for those who like a really tough challenge.
  • Lore books and voiceover provide flavor and a touch of humor to the game.
  • Procedurally generated dungeons and random special ability selection means that every game is new. If you prefer to replay the same one, enabling seeds can preset the randomization.
  • As you progress through the game, a story is told, about Torgar himself and the Splitbeard clan.
  • Steam integration with 15 achievements to unlock and leaderboards based on difficulty.
  • No save! If you die, the game is over. No reloading from a safe spot. It’s part of the challenge!
  • Available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Danish.

It is a game with a classic feel, where you will need a bit of caution to survive, spiced up with a bit of attitude. We wanted the player to have an opinion on Torgar as a character, without forcing a lot of story on the player outside the loading screens, and the voice of Torgar speaking.

Torgar’s Quest is the second desktop game from Tagunda; a husband and wife indie team. Rasmus Rasmussen is game designer and code monkey, while Kelly Cline tackles marketing and graphics. Several other people helped make of this game as well, including composer Martyn Corbet, artist Ethan Myerson and voiceover artist, Christer Kaitila. Full credits available on the website. Torgar’s Quest has been in development since 2014, and has involved more than 20 people.
