Description

Thunder Rally is a wacky multiplayer demolition derby party game with hazardous environments, drivers punching cars, cars punching drivers, and explosive barrels launched by defeated players!

History

We like to get together regularly to play local multiplayer games, but one time we got to talking about how there are very few games that support more than four players, so people were often left out. Even some games that do support more, like Super Smash Brothers, were clearly designed for fewer players, and playing with more usually isn't quite as fun.

Around the same time, Eric Davis, one of our technical artists, was experimenting with a prototype of a game based on a custom Halo map he used to play. The basic concept was to knock the other vehicles out of the arena, but after a player was knocked out they would return to throw grenades at the ones still driving. He got us together to try out the prototype, we all agreed it had awesome potential, and Thunder Rally was born!

Features

  • Designed for two to eight player local multiplayer.
  • Drivers can exit cars to fight on foot and steal cars from other players.
  • Players return immediately as catapults after death: no idle time.
  • Arenas with various hazards and challenges.
  • Versatile powerups with multiple uses.
  • Easy to pick up and play but offers strategic depth for experienced players.
