Major announcements today: iOS support, release plans, an upcoming trailer, and more!

Posted by on

Firstly, if you are wondering why the beta download is gone, it's because I got all the feedback I needed. Since the game has changed a lot since that was uploaded, I felt it would give people the wrong impression if they played it.

Anyway, I've got some big announcements to make today, so I'll get right to it:

iOS Support

First off, thanks to some recent updates to RoboVM and libGDX, Thief Town will now officially support iOS (both phones and tablets)! This was both an interesting and crazy feature to implement, due to the nature of Kryonet (the networking library I use for the game). I'll spare you the details but I will say it involved a lot of customizations to code that isn't mine.
Below is a multiplatform Thief Town party- OSX laptop, Windows 8 laptop, Android 4.0 tablet, and an iOS 7 tablet all playing together happily. Yay!

iOS Support!

Trailer Coming Soon

We recently finished filming some footage for an all new promotional trailer for the game! The idea behind it was to spoof old 90's video game commercials, with really nerdy kids on couches overreacting to everything. It should be finished within the next few weeks.

Release Plan: Steam Greenlight!

Once the trailer is finished, we will be opening up a Steam Greenlight page. We are optimistic that the game will make it through the process, despite being a multiplayer-only title. If/when it makes it through to Steam, I'll also release it on Desura, the Apple App Store, and Google Play for Android. If the Greenlight fails, I'll still release it on the other platforms.
We aren't set on a price for the game yet, and it depends on how well the Greenlight fairs and how Steams policies are set up, but I'd like the game to be as cheap as possible. For mobile devices, it will either be free or $0.99. On desktops, no more than $5.00. Can't get more specific than that at the moment.

Lots of Events!

Thief Town Public Demo @Boston Games Forum

We have been presenting the game at many indie game development events throughout Boston, and have entered into a few festivals. Here's some quick lists to keep track of where we are:
Some recent events Thief Town has been at:

  • Boston Indies
  • Boston Games Forum
  • Made in MA pre-PAX Party
  • Northeastern Game Demo Day 2014 (won 3rd place for Best Overall Game)

Upcoming events:

Festivals Applied To:

  • Evolution 2014 Indie Showcase
  • IndieCade
  • Boston Festival of Indie Games

I'm pretty sure the game won't make it into Evo, but will make BFIG. IndieCade I'm hopeful about because it's a pretty big deal. Fingers crossed!

Submitted to Indiecade!

New Features

Lastly, I'd like to mention some new features and improvements we are working on:

  • Better touch controls on Android & iOS
  • More music & sound effects
  • Thief Town and Spy Town-only modes accessed from the saloon
  • Redesigned score screen (seen below)

That's all for now! A big thanks everyone who has been following the game here, we're going to have some exciting new updates soon!-Brett
