in a playthrough of the regular WBC3 as daemons I had a daemon in my retinue that was so powerful he could solo missions by himself, was well worth the ASP cost

Yes, yes and one more yes. That's reminds me my paladin playthrough with cavalry only retinue from both human and elven factions. I always used knights bonus XP research and cavern wars map with additional undead lairs to strengthen my honor guard. After hard training my retinue were becoming the real honor guard with one single purpose - be fabulous and nothing more.

What about their production speed btw? Does it mean that they need more time the more dangerous they are, like dragons and titans? Cause sometimes high level retinue can easily cleanse the map on their own.

Only the production cost is modified by the unit’s level. Production time remains the same for what it should br for that unit type.

Description

Some retinue units can become too expensive to bring into some battles as they level up. As such, most high level retinue units generally don't see the light of the day.

In 0.9, your keep gains a second production option that allows you to "produce" your retinue units during the course of the battle for the cost of some resources (which is based on the unit's level). So that level 50 Minotaur King of yours, that never gets used due to being too expensive, can now be produced mid-game to join the fray later on!

Retinue units can still be brought in at the start of the game using ASP as normal. Producing them later on is just an extra way of getting a hold of them.

The Hero Resurrection game option now applies to your retinue units as well. So you can revive your fallen retinue mid-battle too! (Provided permanent retinue deaths is disabled.)
