The Oil Blue is an indie action-sim that has you drilling for oil in the world's oceans, selling barrels of oil on the market, and exploring new islands once you completed objectives set by your employer, the United Oil of Oceania company. Once you land on an island, you have a set amount of days and oil barrels to make during your stay. Fire up those old drilling machines and start making oil underwater, watch the oil barrel market and sell at the highest price, repair machines and do it all within the time you’re given…or the UOO will boot you off the island for a better crew. Sell more barrels to achieve higher ranks and perks, upgrade your machines, and conquer the ocean!
You can read the IndieGames.com preview here, which calls it "pure gaming bliss." Enjoy the game!
It's that time again - the Xmas Bundle is live and is available at IndieRoyale right now (those with preorders can download or redeem keys at any time).
The six-game Bundle is led off by a multiplayer Windows PC FPS featuring both dinosaurs and Nazis: Dino D-Day! The Steam-ready title, in which you can play both as a velociraptor and as Allied troops, is powered by Valve's Source engine and began its life as a mod.
Next up is Wadjet Eye's The Blackwell Trilogy Remastered, which includes the first three games in the award winning supernatural 2D point-and-click adventure series starring young New York writer Rosangela Blackwell. This specially updated version of the trilogy makes a world premiere in forms including Steam and Desura PC keys, plus a downloadable DRM-free Windows version. The remastered Trilogy includes updated voice acting and a 'five years later' audio commentary track for The Blackwell Legacy, as well as a number of other smaller enhancements.
Also included in the Xmas Bundle is Eets, a cult 2D puzzle platformer for Windows and Mac that was the first ever title from Shank creator Klei Entertainment. Described as Lemmings meets The Incredible Machine, Eets boasts over 100 developer-made puzzles, plus 200+ user-created levels in a bonus pack, and is available for Steam (both PC and Mac) and Desura (PC), as well as in DRM-free PC download form for the first time ever.
Rounding out the initial Bundle titles is Vertigo Games' under-appreciated oil drilling action-sim The Oil Blue. The satirical title has you exploring islands and managing drilling machines, based around objectives set by your employer, the United Oil of Oceania company. It's included in Desura and standalone DRM-free PC versions.
Give the gift of indie games this Xmas! Happy holidays to all.

This game is really fun! To be completely honest I'm not even sure why it's so compelling. Maybe it's the clank of the machines or the frantic clicking but whatever it is, I like it. Was this designed for a tablet computer originally? If not it would seem like a natural place for it.
Yup, I'd agree with all you wrote.
The game's incredibly addictive and mysterious, mechanical yet never cold.
The UI would lend itself really well to the tablets, the same thing came to my mind.
If anyone could help, I was gifted a key to activate this game.. but I can't find where to apply the key. Even downloaded the demo, no luck.
Also when I copy/paste the key I usually have to delete the last letter or number and reinput it manually.
Install Desura, if you haven't already>> click on Desura logo (top left corner )>> Tools>> Activate Game...>>Enter your key.
This was made with Game Maker? Impressive!
This is nothing. You can virtually make anything with this engine. It's way underrated because the quality of game released and the lack of anaemic development since Yoyo took over.
It is a real engine, even if it tends to attract certain...demographics of games.
Thanks for the comments! And nah, the game was made prior to all the oil spill stuff, though some of it is indeed incorporated into the story.
I think the only bad thing about all this is the timing, the game is so well made, and it's just a shame that this oil spill junk is going to cut some possible buyers, I know I got he game, and great work, the fact that at least someone is using game maker to its true potential is great, keep it up...
