The Legend of Equip Pants is a Zelda-like episodic adventure RPG where instead of equipping and upgrading a sword, you have to equip and upgrade your pants. In fact, the entire universe revolves around pants, because why not? Visit the Pantsmith. Fear evil creatures living in Pantsylvania. Enjoy epic pants puns. The game's first three episodes are coming soon. I've broken the RPG elements down into delicious, pint-sized episodes so they can be consumed without the confusion, head spins, and frequent breaks often associated with giant servings of RPG content. My goal is to deliver 20 minutes of mostly self-contained fun in each episode.

I made a holiday-themed data visualization with map data from the latest episode of Legend of Equip Pants. I think it turned out awesome, and I wanted to share. Happy Pantsmas!

The new Panta Claus episode of my game Legend of Equip > Pants is now playing on iOS and Chrome's Web Store. This episode is the first in my game to introduce player death, and it is pretty challenging. I've been capturing players' paths through the level as well as where they are dying.

The deep snow and bitter cold is a real killer combination.

As a bit of thematic layering, and with data visualization in mind, I made the episode map itself in the shape of a Christmas Pantsmas Tree. I knew then that I could capture the data and play it back... and with a little smart use of shapes and colors... I could have the player map data visualization come out as a lovely holiday themed animation.

I titled this data visualization "2000 plays. 6000 deaths. 40 seconds." I think it turned out really great, so I wanted to share it with all of you.

Have a Happy Pantsmas!
