A text-based survival game about death and mortality. Find peace in an ancient future where civilisation is dead and the few remaining machines are worshipped like gods. Accept your fate and live your life, or blind yourself and run forever. Featuring light Role-Playing elements and a real-time (text-based) combat system. Spanning three narrative acts, you must explore the desolate landscape around you in order to find the resources necessary for survival. Some may join you, whilst others hinder your efforts. When there is nothing left to do but survive, the mind wanders to the inevitabilty of it's own death. Hopefully to be released on Steam in the Summer of 2018. Beyond The Veil is a textual narrative survival game. Take the role of The Driver, a man who has lost all he loved, as he journeys across a dark wasteland in a futile quest to avoid a storm that brings the end of the world, and his own death.
Beyond The Veil uses light RPG mechanics paired with a real-time combat system to compliment the narrative themes of the story. The wasteland is a harsh place, and it’s inhabitants no less so. The storm will catch you eventually, even if you find water, if you keep the marauder’s at bay, and you keep the nightmares away, it will catch you. So keep moving.
To survive you will need to find water to quench your thirst and food to stave off your hunger. Fuel from ancient wrecks offers you the possibility of escape to new lands when the world becomes too hostile to bear.
A host of additional characters can help The Driver. Each has their own story to tell, attributes, and unique abilities. Each of these characters can be further customised and enhanced by rusty weapons, ancient armour, and mysterious trinkets.
The weather of the wasteland is extremely varied- sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse. Whilst heatwave will dry the water from the earth, rain will return it.
Procedurally generated areas and gear, dynamic weather, and a variety of characters creates different challenges every time you play the game.
I believe that text is something that is not fully exploited in modern games. The written word has an ability to stimulate our imagination that no other media can. Beyond The Veil is primarily text-based to immerse you, the player, into a world that is not clearly defined, to allow you to visualise it as you see fit. By allowing you the opportunity to fill in detail that is not provided visually, I believe that your experience with The Driver will be uniquely yours.
As a solo developer I am working as hard as I can to get Beyond The Veil into your hands. At the moment I am aiming for a Summer 2018 release.
Initially I will be releasing on Steam, I would also like to release on PS4 and XBOX if the demand is there.
