The Last Dogma is a dark comedy exploration adventure game set in the year 1999 of an alternate reality world, where US actively campaigns for world domination after being disappointed with the results of the Cold War.

Post news Report RSS Update 16: New Things and Significant Changes

Update about big changes: new name, updated site, new main menu, new GUI, new AI, Oculus Rift support, redesigned/updated locations.

Posted by on

There are lots of changes since the last update.

0) I updated the engine (just from 4.1 to 4.3) and it corrupted everything in the project, so I was forced to delete it. But I had a backup and downgraded to 4.2, so far it works. But I need to redo some things...

1) I changed the name of the game. The Last Disbeliever is now called The Last Dogma. It sounds much better and it's still "TLD".

2) The site has been destroyed by Freehostia, but I changed hosting provider and re-created the site using my memory.

3) New GUI and Main Menu. It's not finished yet, but you can see significant changes on screenshots below.

NEW (not final version):

OLD:

4) All locations have been redesigned and now look much better.

5) Not all people have noticed, but there is an "Oculus Rift support" line in the description and I finally started to work on it.
But I need someone to test the results, since I don't have the hardware. If I won't find anyone, OVR support won't be available before release, perhaps only months later after that.

6) I was using free AI system, which works very badly and it seems that its creators just don't care about it anymore. I finally decided to change it, no longer trying to improve this mess.

Hm, I liked the older name some kind of. It sounded like something special and interesting, it had something mysterious in it and you could philosophize about questions like: What is meant with Disbeliever? What is he disbelieving in? And so on. However, with the term "Dogma" it may sound clearer and more compact, more general instead of the more specifying "Disbeliever". The location overhaul looks amazing. Great work!

I thought "Disbeliever" actually scared away the players.
I found out that it's a word which religious aggressors use for people who don't believe in their gods.
I needed something more universal, something which people understand in all countries.
"Dogma" is overall better: sounds easier, easier to remember, easier to tell.
Both suit the game.
Search in Google will be harder, but I love the new name.

I see your point. Never seen it from this perspective and forgot about those who force other people to believe in their religious believes and follies. And you're right about the linguistically more economical term "Dogma", it sounds more fluent. I like the name and expect more great updates in the future with amazement.

I hadn't noticed - but I'll be happy to test it in Linux (and Windows too if you need it). It looks like it could be awesome in the rift!!

I'm sure you'll find a lot of other people who'd like to test as well on Reddit.com or Developer.oculusvr.com
