The game simulates the spread of a virus across the world, spreading like a fire as it engulfs each populated area in turn. Your task as the player is to master the fire itself and keep it burning until the world is aflame.
If you want to know a little more about how the game was put together, in particular how the gameplay morphed from a dna function curve editing thing into this simpler/purer form I put together a 20 min documentary. I go through some of the challenges of trying to shape the simulation into a game, and also talk about some of the technical difficulties that cropped up.
It's too big to upload here sadly. Check out the 'making of' documentary over on Youtube.

Looks a bit like an Android game what I like (Plague Inc.) :)
I can't even seem to get the game working. I start the game and it starts loading but then nothing, the process just stops and nothing happens. Anyone got a fix for this?
Just to add to checks I mentioned below - which where ensure you have XNA & .net installed.
Please also check and download DirectX 9.0c. I'd not sure later versions are fully backwards compatible.
You can download DirectX 9 from Microsoft.com
And of course I offer my apologies for the technical issues.

the game looks good . but 3 things bug me .
1 it should be called a RTS even though your not controlling a army its a RTS .
2 the game uses the idea of fire for some core mechanics like fuel , oxygen and heat but also disease since it can hop on a plane and some stages are labeled pandemics .
3 the game wont actually start on my computer unless i left click after it has be double clicked . other wise its just a black screen. windows 7 with direct x 11
watching your development vid where you show different builds i think at some point you lost track of what was what lol BUT it looks good and the game play is unique . id like to see a sequel with a shorter name and maybe a bonus mode where you can place a starting point and try to spread the fire as a ai tried to stop it with the same options at its disposal
Seems really cool but unfortunatetly I can't get it to run...
When I install it (and all the tools) and then launch it it does not respond, automata shows up in task manager but 2 sec later it shuts down. I tried to uninstall .net and XNA and reinstall manually as well as installing the game manually (vie the zip download) but nothing changes.
I run it under Win 8 and my gfx card does support dx10.
Love the look and concept, unfortunately, can't get it to work on my machine.
The mouse is completely disfunctional. As in, it's not that the cursor is hidden - i can't even click "blindly" on anything. Also, instead of constellations, i'm getting overlapping hexagons rendered on the sky sphere.
Running Windows 8.1, GTX 670, multiple monitor setup, running game on primary monitor, windowed (defaults).
The menu interaction is done with the cursor keys rather than the mouse. Sorry about that. Then it's mouse controls once you're in the game. You can also use the xbox gamepad. (Use spacebar & start) on each to toggle between them.
Not sure what the skysphere issue is.
In general for anyone having issues I apologise and please ask desura for a refund if you can't get it working.
Yeah, cursor keys don't quite work either.
If i mash on them while at the same time minimizing or maximizing the window, i'll get some movement through the menus while the window is getting minimized/maximized. As soon as it's maximized and in focus, i'm getting no response from cursor keys at all.
Curiously, Enter and Esc work fine.
Same for me as for Vesperal.. Getting a crash instantly.
The pre-req's were installed correctly, I've updated my graphics drivers but no change.
If you wish to see the crash log, send me a message!
Do you mind if I use gameplay from your game in a video I will post to youtube?
Not at all, please go right ahead and use any footage and screenshots as you like. /Richard
