Description
The Flames that Follow Us is a 2D brutal melee combat game about overcoming imposter syndrome. Delve into a child’s psyche and explore a distorted childhood home as he mourns the loss of his Brother.
History
The Flames that Follow Us is a video game created by 17-year-old Van Andrew Nguyen, with composers Toby Wu and Maximilian Zantis.
Originally starting off as a passion project mid-2019 between two students, Maximilian joined mid-development to create a part of the ambient-synth score. Van Andrew and Toby would go on to launch the game in their final year of high school.
The Flames that Follow Us was as a creative outlet to explore personal experiences with impostor syndrome. The game fleshes out multiple stages of the creative process and how public expectations can be detrimental. Van Andrew attempts to merge intimate, slow-burn story-telling with fast-paced gameplay whilst promoting awareness of mental health.
Features
