As soon as the new year started we have launched a small “PR campaign” with the aim to publicize our upcoming game Astroids and grab some attention.

Additionally we started this blog and began posting screenshots and other updates about the game on multiple channels beside our web site.

This post summarizes the results after the first month and attention we manage to get and measure so far.

Media

For the first public announcement we have prepared a suitable game teaser video that you should have already seen, but if you somehow missed it hurry up.

Some light

An email with a small announcement text, game information and relevant links has been sent to approximately 250 media contacts. Of all those 6% of media has published the story and there are few more to be published, so we should end up being published in 7% of media we tried to reach.

Additional 3% of contacted media has expressed their interest in the game and is willingness to publish a pre/review of the game once it is ready.

Results

The biggest attention has been generated on GameTrailers that presented our teaser video. We have also received a lot of traffic from local online media (Blic, Telegraf), which is not strictly gaming public. Additionally a lot of attention came from the regional tech media (Gadzeterija).

Indie game news and reviews web sites we were featured in only generated relatively small amount of visits to our web site and teaser video views.

Viewers

Around 10,000 viewers has seen the game teaser video so far. This is the combined number of viewers from different sources like YouTube, GameTrailers, IndieDB, Vimeo and some other smaller sites.

Bursts here, explodes there!

Followers

By the term “followers” we consider all the people that have subscribed to one of the channels we are providing for them to receive updates related to the game and its development.

The biggest number of the followers came from Twitter, around 130 combined on
@Astroids_Game and @indus3_. Most of these people are game developers themselves – similar to us, or journalists and bloggers that cover games.

On Facebook and Google+ channels there has been about four times less followers on each of those . Also, our IndieDB page had close to that number of watchers, that could be counted as well as followers.
There has been also a small number of people that subscribed to our newsletter.

Rocks in cosmos

All in all around 250-260 people has subscribed to follow the progress updates of Astroids game in the first month. We will still keep updating all those channels and see how they perform in the future.

Conclusion

Even though the game is in relatively early stage of its development – we have managed to grab some attention. Optimistically, we were hoping to receive more attention in case we would have been featured on some of the bigger gaming web sites. But as that didn’t happen yet this is the result we can be satisfied with.

At the end we would like to say big THANK YOU to the people who demonstrated their support and pre-ordered the game at this stage of development process. We really appreciate your support!

The game looks cool and I like that you are sharing the PR process with us but... why do think Atari isn't going to be upset about this? Also the logo reads like AS ROIDS just fyi : )

Atari is welcome to get in contact with us.

The logo is stylized, and balanced around letter 'O'. Thus the letter 'T' has been integrated between 'S' and 'R'. Have a look at bigger version of logo at Astroids.tv where you can see that the 'R' does not have the vertical line for itself, but instead that's part of letter 'T'.
