Don't give up SwearLoad!, making STA is utter hell believe me. It's the curiosity of seeing if your idea works or not that makes it fun, for me anyway. Start small if your new to development, don't expect to make GTA in a week or two. Just having some polygons bouncing around the screen is a big achievement. Anyway back to work.
