StarForge Release

We are proud to announce that we are releasing StarForge today! After many years of hard work, dreams and determination, we are releasing the 1.0 of StarForge. This would not have been possible without the help of the community, fans, and supporters of our game through its various phases over the years.

Two and a half years ago, Will and Steve were working out of a basement part time on the game, and then the game exploded online, giving us the opportunity of a lifetime to finally make the game we've always wanted to build. A year after that, we managed to increase to a team of 4 developers. And after the launch on Early Access, managed to build a small company which has been working to bring you the StarForge release today. This would not have been possible without the hard work and efforts of a tireless development team, and your continued support.

We understand that at times we bit off a bit more than we could chew, and certain areas took quite some time to build and test. It goes without saying that this has been a vast learning experience for us all. We really appreciate everyone's patience and support during the development stretch. We are glad to have participated as one of the first few games to launch the Early Access section on Steam, and to learn and develop with the community over the past year and a half. We plan to exit Early Access within the next few days. We also plan to no longer sell the Founders Club upon, or shortly after release, depending on how quickly Steam can remove it. We only want the Founders Club to contain exclusive rewards for early supporters.

Steam9

We believe we have put in some super cool and innovative technology and gameplay, including an Infinite Procedural World, Voxel Digging, Real-Time Atmosphere, Procedural Asteroids, Tunnels, Caves, Mountains, Biomes, Physics Movement, Vehicles, Tons of Guns, Creatures, and Objects, and so much more! All of this works with both single player and multiplayer. It has been a labor of love, we are glad to have progressed this far, and we really enjoy playing the release version. We will continue to monitor the game, and plan to do another update in the future with bug fixes. Further updates will depend on future sales of the game.

Steam10

We've also finished and implemented our IndieGoGo and Founders club rewards. IndieGoGo backers must link their account in-game in order to receive their digital perks; Steam purchasers do not need to worry about this as all updates are channeled via Steam.. As for the Digital Rewards (wallpapers, art book, strategy guide, soundtrack), we will be providing a link to the download for these in the next month as we are still putting the finishing touches on them. We will release another blog post about that when they are done.

The hard assets (T-Shirts, Posters) for IndieGoGo backers are also being developed. We have already reached out to everyone involved regarding these rewards. If you are an IndieGoGo backer or Founder on Steam and have questions or concerns about your name being listed, please email us at sworin(at)codehatch.com. We will periodically be adding in the new names as we receive them.

Thanks again for all your support. We hope you enjoy playing the release!- The Code}{atch Team

Meh, I never bought the game cause I wanted to see it finished first, but I always kept an eye on it. A quick look at the forum reveals much. Congrats on alienating your community, AND making a game that isn't half of what you hyped it to be. If what was here was anything like you promised years ago, I'd be sold instantly, but atm? Yeeeeah, no thanks...

I don't see the random generated guns balanced and implemented in survival as the game advertised back before it even went beta, that was one of the mayor vending points, alongside a lot of others that can't recall right now but I can assume aren't getting into the game.

So, what I feel you acomplished was to create an engine, or at least added a lot of features to an existing one making it almost a new one and shipped it with a tech demo, demostrating a bit of what you could achieve with it, but not real game was shipped, imho.

Now, I'm not sure how much modding is supported or will be supported for this "game" in the future, but for the sake of it's survival, I hope it is fully moddable.

Otherwise, I have a bad feeling for the future of this game (I hope I'm wrong) as if a game that didn't felt finish is labeled as it is by the devs, making those that invest money on a game in EA hoping it will improve will stop founding the title, and those who investigate the forums to see if it really deserve to buy it will decide in most cases it isn't worth if it isn't going to get any better, killing the support in no time, making the game dead.

Again I hope I'm wrong here, only time will tell us.

And please, if you lost faith on the project, just tell the truth, I prefeer that than the bullsh-t PR from big companies tend to use.

I'm following this game since it's "Free to play" times, so I hope this game get's to where it deserves, with or without the main devs developing it.

I'm really sad that some indie games die or never get to where they planned in the first place, be DarkOut lack of multiplayer, Plannetary Annihilation's lack of proper campaing, features and even off-line save DRM-free features (these last should come eventually, but not at release when they said they would).

All and all, only time will tell what the fate of this game (StarForge) will be.

The weapons are now available in creative mod only to screw around.

This game jumped from alpha, to beta, to release way too quickly.

The devs also said they won't update the game if it doesn't sell :(.

And it won't sell if the game isn't even finished. Guess there's another lesson here regarding alpha/beta funding.

I'm a noob to the StarForge story.

What did the devs promise and what did we actually get?
Is it any good?

This game is NOT finished. I am utterly disgusted. I cannot even call this alpha. My vehicles still disappear through the floor. My houses still disappear randomly upon returning from large distances. My containers randomly appear empty whenever they feel like it.

I love the immersion I feel playing this game. I can fly in my SPACE HELICOPTER (A helicopter is a rotary aircraft. Rotors do not work in a vacuum) to mine some asteroids in space. I dont even have to get out. I don't even have to wear a helmet. I just slam nose of the helicopter into the asteroid and mine it by sticking my head out the window. There are only TWO resources in space. Dark shale and garrison ore. Yeah. It's my general understanding of space that all asteroids are made of garrison ore and dark matter shale. There's also some stone but. That's probably a bug. Why do creatures spawn on asteroids?

Guns now reload instantly when reloading twice.

What in the HELL does the sonar probe do? It doesn't even follow gravity. Maybe something you forgot to implement, like half the game? Why in the holy hell do creatures drop guns ammo blocks stairs etc?!

The alien forest biome is in shambles. It is nowhere near the design quality of the other forests.

Almost all of the rendering issues are still present from alpha. None of them were investigated and fixed to improve performance. The game still renders objects numerous times.

You've made so many things and they ended up having no purpose in the final product. We expected so much, and had it waved in our face constantly and taken away. No Voxel water. No space gameplay. No procedural weapons. No RPG elements. No structural physics. As far as I can tell, the current game was never described in any of your writings.

For Starforge's sake, at least add mod support with all the incomplete systems included so we can finish making the game. I can at least code a fully working skill and blueprint research system in C# with Unity.

I will likely never, ever, ever buy a game from you guys ever again, and if I find out one of your lead designers are working on a game, I will make sure to remind everyone of this game.

Wow, for a team of 2/4 this looks great! As a one person team I couldn't even do 1/100th of this.

Actually it isn't. Look at the Early Access Verdun game which has only 3 people working on it. They have constant updates, listen to forum feedback and even reply on some threads (respectfully I might add). What CodeHatch has done is unprofessional.

Stop complaining about the game.... go buy bf4 or something like that and you will also find issues. Some people just have envy of other persons talents.!!!
