Spellweaver is an online digital trading card game (TCG), created by a self-funded indie team of seasoned game developers with a passion for card games. The game focuses on strategic depth and variety, while still being easy to learn. Many current digital card games lack the inherent depth of the true classics. We believe that depth and variety are of paramount importance to a TCG – of course, combined with some beautiful graphics and frequent updates with new cards.

Hello, IndieDB! I am Ivko Stanilov, the Lead behind Spellweaver TCG, and I want to tell you a story...

Four years ago, I often had these vivid daydreams. There were mighty angels, horrific demons, vampires, elves, and knights flying all around...

“Knights don’t really fly! You’ve been playing too much Magic the Gathering,” I said to myself.

“Of course knights don’t fly,” I replied. “I was just about to say ‘in a flurry of cards’ before you interrupted! But the problem is, I don’t nearly play enough.”

“Well, why aren’t you just playing more, then?”

I really wanted to play a card game – one that I could play online. I enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering, but I could no longer afford the time investment the paper game required. The problem was that Magic Online was clumsy and not really as great as it was supposed to be, and I simply couldn’t find anything else to play that I liked. After trying Magic, everything else seemed shallow and not that exciting. Back then there were really no alternatives. As time passed, the creative itch to make a card game myself became stronger and stronger, until one day, I just decided to go ahead and do it.

And that’s how it all started: Spellweaver TCG was born!


Slowly put patiently, I gathered a team of individuals crazy enough for the idea. I told them, “You don’t need to be nuts to join us, but it really helps!” And there we were, an ambitious bunch of enthusiasts – brainstorming mechanics, testing with cards proxied on paper, often scratching everything and starting anew, until we felt we had something really exciting in our hands.

“Well, now we just need to sit down and make the game app.” – one member of our team said.

We all agreed that it should be easy as pie. Boy, were we wrong!

It took us more than three years to reach something like an alpha version. We went through an art production effort of epic proportions. We had to change the game client’s platform, which forced us to rewrite most of the code. We invested endless hours in making sure everything worked smoothly and looked amazing. Now, finally, we can say that we are pretty delighted with the results.

At the moment, we are grinding to get in Open Beta as soon as possible. We put all our passion for games into this project, and after all this time we are very excited to finally reveal everything about it. Hope you enjoy the game as much as we did making it!
