  • PC via Steam
  • 4 player co-op
  • Open world: about 25 sq km or about 10 sq miles.
  • Story driven mechanics - survive by helping others. NPC will have their story to tell.
  • Realistic approach at everything
  • Rich map to explore
  • Moddable (sooner or later)

Things you can expect from the game:

  • Be prepared. Some SHTF situation is about to happen. Disasters are randomly generated.
  • No action hero shoot-em-all. Bullets kill, or badly wound. Don't catch the bullet. Cover, hide, try stay away from trouble.
  • Eating medical kits doesn't restore your health. Medical assistance and rest does. Or not, if it's too late.
  • Being alone decrease the chance of survival. At times of struggle people are more likely to assist each other. Not all of them, though.
  • Hand-poking the tree won't cut the tree. Hand-poking dirt won't build you a mud-house. Don't expect to build anything you can't build for real. Barricades may be, not castles.
  • Have you seen the [random disaster movie title]? You play that mate, who died on 47th minute. Not sure you can win this, but you can tell your story.

We just entered Steam Greenlight, here. That's my first time on Greenlight, and here are some thoughts so far:

  • Community is fed up with survival games. I did my best to explain why I decided to develop a game in a popular genre, yet 30-35% voted No so far.
  • Animated logo attracts attention. Placing there Marcy's face seems like a good idea, kind of a making it "personal" and creating eye contact.
  • I knew I should decrease level of lens flares, and that was noted in the second comment as well. We will definitely do something with lens flares, that's not a Star Trek game after all.
  • Creating trailer in Unreal Engine 4 is quite easy. Sequencer tool provides great control of the flow and actors. Feels like Adobe After Effects. Playing with camera settings somehow led to glitches, when there are multiple cameras on the scene, engine even crashed twice, but all and all, making those video shots was by far the most interesting part of the week.
  • I messed up with facial animations, and Marcy lost couple of her morphs on the way. Here is an in-game animation to compare:

Marcy. Facial animation

Will fix her face next week.
