Description

Shape Up is a physics based arcade shooter where timing is the key to survival. The player controls a whale that is constantly being attacked by falling geometric objects. By shooting bubbles and hitting the geometric objects the player can deflect and bounce them up towards the top of the screen where they are destroyed. As the player progresses, an increasing amount of geometric objects fall down. The player is forced to make good use of the surrounding walls, glancing shots and using power-ups wisely to battle the laws of physics. Improving accuracy will reward the player with bonus stars for extra points. In the end there is no escaping death. Until then, Shape Up!

History

Filip started Shape Up as a pet project in between his normal assignments. He saw it as a way to improve his programming skills but did it mainly to challenge himself as a designer. Inspired by classics like Tetris, Pong and Bust-a-move Filip wanted to create something unique using minumum interaction but without dumbing down gameplay. It would be both easy to pick up and play and intuitive enough that even a small child could understand it. No tutorial needed. At the same time, he also envisioned a game that would gradually increase in difficulty and become challenging enough that it would taunt the competitive player into coming back for more. Shape up was released in February of 2019, on both Android and iOS.
