ScrumbleShip is the most accurate space combat simulation devised to date. Gather resources, construct a capital ship out of individual blocks, then pilot it with AI or human help against other players.

Also, that little red spot flickers between brighter and dimmer, thanks to zeroknight demanding it be so :D

I recommend silicon carbide, makes these things look mean.

Also, anyone who thinks mines would be pointless, once players start convoys and whatnot, creating standard shipping lanes that get patrolled by guards or some form of patrol group, imagine the chaos should a few thousand of these be scattered about.

Now, another cool thing, what if you had a secret base, and wanted to ensure that should you be discovered, you'd have time to abandon/defend it? Make a large field of mines around, ensure all ships that should be there receive a special signal to cause the mines to deactivate, then just wait for any poor captains who should stumble upon that which they should not know of :3

And one last idea, rather than use these as sabotage weapons, fly a ship straight at a station or something, release tons of these behind (so they acquire your momentum), then pull out of the way ^_^

Wow! I had never thought of these!

I'd be happy to include 'em in the main game if you'd like 'em to be, Wazubaba.

Cheers,
-Dirk

Sweet, I'll upload them, they come with a folded up variant, that has two variants of it's own I can't decide on, though leaning towards the more collapsed one myself.

I can randomize blocks as they're placed : ) A couple variations of a block can make it look really neat.

EY! I better not find 4,000 of these randomly appear near my ship when the multiplayer comes out!

This gives me the idea to create specialized bomber ships. They're hulking behemoths in roughly the shape of those trains from Half-Life 2, full of bombs. They'll have enormous, powerful thrusters to be able to zip past an area. The price being that they are horrible at turning, and would be restricted to merely blanketing an area with mines. They could go fast enough to not require an escort in a very lightly defended area, and could hold its own against such with the few turrets it will have.

Basically, special bomber ships that trade weapons and radar and all that for massive storage for countless mines, and enormous thrusters to get their job done and out of danger quickly.

[EDIT]
Since they'd be individual, yet hulking ships, and not enormous captial type ships, they could be mass-produced a little bit easier, allowing for bomber squadrons to REALLY blanket the hell out of an area

Also, imagine specialized mine-sweeper ships :D

I just re-read this, and came to a realization. Your fast ship would not work.

You are in space. If you deploy a mine from a ship traveling fast, that mine will be traveling only slightly slower than you. Even if you have some kind of launcher, you would have to be able to launch with a force equivalent to the inverse of your current velocity. Now, it may fail at making a mine field, but it would be out right godly for a long range bombing run. Just gotta make sure to pull out of the way, and hope they don't intercept the mines quick enough :D

Description

After losing several ships due to unexplained explosions, a scout frigate was sent to sweep around where contact was lost. They were almost lost as well, only saved thanks to quick reaction from the pilot and the sensor officer. Mines had been scattered by a rival company to disrupt material shipments for the nearby factories.
