Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.
The engine supporting the game is entirely original in code & design, and its code is Open Source (ZLIB license, read the docs for more on how you can use the engine).
In addition to the FPS game which is in a very playable state, the engine is being used for an RPG which is in the preproduction phase. Additionally, Proper Games ltd are the first to use the engine commercially. dot3 labs is a company started by the creators of sauerbraten that offers commercial support.
Dearest readers, today we would like to present the Tomatenquark project to you. The project coined under the name Tomatenquark is "a community homage to Cube2: Sauerbraten". We symbolize this in our logo. A cube which sprouts new life stemming from its community.
Firstly we would like to outline all the countless hours of work that have been put into the making of Cube2: Sauerbraten. It is an amazing game. Some of us have been active members in the Sauerbraten community for more than a decade.
We set out with a simple goal: "we love Sauerbraten, and would love to see ongoing commitment into the game".
We are proud to present a version of the game which is 100% free, publicly available to anyone, in good shape to be published on Steam.
At this stage we would like to announce the game to the general public. We are currently in the process of publishing the game on Steam and would like your feedback!
It will be possible to download new content in the game directly which will allow creators get their stuff out more quickly and players to enjoy new stuff hassle-free. It is a longstanding issue that we see in the game and we would like to tackle it right away.
If you would like to follow up on the project's roadmap please visit our website or chat with us on Discord!

Hey guys, just came across this community forum. I help run the Sauerbraten community site Sauerworld.org. Please check us out if you're interested in the game and want to learn more about it and the community. Hope to see you there!
Ok, was running a co-op edit server password protected editing a map. Some guy with [GM] at the end of his name comes into the server, wipes out a massive chunk of our map then leaves. What the F!@# man?!
His name started with J, ip is 18.104.22.168. Something like that should NEVER happen when I'm running my own server not listed on master server. Well never should happen period.
Was loving this game/engine/editor but if people have god access to any server and can do whatever they want, whats the point?
Anyone know I should contact about this?
you have to claim master and toggle spectator mode for people who join the server tho
is this game fun????
Of course! If you like Old-School fps, its a great alternative to quake (well, quake is a bit dead these days anyway) .
