Runnin'Skies is an online turn-based board game that is in development. Its matches are played by four people. Each player commands an army of 10 characters, and should use them to reach the great objective of the match: collect a sacred relic, known as Ancient Word.
Take a look at the game board:
The hexagonal tiles are divided into 5 colors. The gray tiles are neutral, i.e., they belong to no player. The other colors are designated one to each player, randomly. For example, if you got the green color, you can place your characters only on the green tiles. Furthermore, it's not possible to move the characters, so you should place your characters strategically.
At the begining of each player's turn, two boxes appear on random neutral tiles. Those boxes can contain any type of item, including the Ancient Word, the relic that you need to collect to win. The characters can collect the items from those boxes, but we'll talk more about this forward. When a character has an item, he gets more stronger or weaker, depending on the attributes of the collected object. Besides the items that appears on the board, the player count with other five, choosen before the begining of the match. Those five items can be distributed between the characters along the game.
In the following image, you can see the board with some characters and some boxes in the neutral area.
Each character can have, at maximum, 2 items. Besides, a character can have a skill scroll equipped, what gives him the possibility to use a skill (we'll explain better ahead). The characters have five attributes: health points, attack points, defense points, range and critical hit rate. Those attributes have direct influence over the battles in Runnin'Skies.
Every action in Runnin'Skies consumes action points. A player has 2 action points every turn (or 3 points, if the leader is on board), and can use it as he wish. For example, the majority of characters costs 1 action point to be placed on the board. Besides the actions presented until now, there are other actions, executed by the characters on the board: attack, use skill and rest. If the character has the Ancient Word, another action is possible: dedicate. Take a look in the meaning of each action:
The first utility of this action is remove health points of an enemy character. A character can attack any tile inside his range. The health points removed from the target will depend on many factors from the attacker and from the defender. If a critical hit occurs, the attack removes the double of health points. The critical hit chance is determined by the character's critical hit ratio.
If the target of the attack has his health points completely removed, he becomes unconcious by 3 turns, and cannot be used along this time. After that, the character wakes up , but his maximum health points are reduced by a half. Furthermore, if your character removes all health points of an enemy character, you can loot one of the enemy character's item and equip on your character.
The other utility of the attack is to collect items. Just attack a box to collect the item inside it with a character. If your character already have two items, you'll need to chose one to be replaced by the collected item.
Other detail is that each character can attack only once a turn.
This action makes your character use the skill from the scroll that he owns. In Runnin'Skies, the skills have charges. Every time that a skill is used, one of its charges is consumed. If the skill have no more charges, the character can't use it.
There are skills of many types and for various porpuses. Some examples are:
Before the begining of the match, you choose 10 skills and can distribute them between your characters.
With this action, your character rests, recovering a percentage of his maximum health. However, rest is a expensive action (it costs 2 action points).
This action is available only if the character has the Ancient Word. Collecting this item you are very close to the win.
When you use the dedication action with the character who have the Ancient Word, he will get concentrated in discover the misteries of this item, obtaining a dedication charge. Reach 3 charges and you win the match! But be careful: as any item, the Ancient Word can be stolen from your character if he becomes unconcious! It's possible to use this action ony once a turn.
Observe the following image. It highlights Pahha, a character of the game:
Pahha has 80 points of maximum health, but lost 10 of it. He have 10 attack points, 9 defense points, 5 of attack range and 6% of critical hit ratio. Pahha also have a scroll of the skill "Heal" and two items equipped. Below of the Pahha's attributes, there are 4 buttons: one for each action described above.
In short, in a Runnin'Skies match the player should:
