Resistance and Liberation is an engaging and authentic World War 2 multiplayer FPS experience that puts you in the boots of the soldiers fighting in Normandy in 1944.

Post news Report RSS Resistance and Liberation - or the project that got lost in time

It took a while, but we finally checked this page again and to our surprise we found quite a few of you still hanging around, commenting and looking for news.

Posted by on

Now if you believe that our last attempt at reviving this project has failed, you've guessed right. I won't go into the details too much, but one of the reasons for it was simply a lack of interest. We couldn't gain any momentum and recruit enough people to help us out and make it happen, so it went dormant. In the meantime our website, which was hosted by a sponsor for years has shut down, the forums are gone and the domain is now with a Chinese domain grabber.

Still, there's a few small things in the works internally as well as externally. And seeing people writing here as well as having a steady stream of page impressions here every day makes us believe that there's still an interest in seeing this project move forward.

So what could happen next? If you've recently worked with a state-of-the-art engine like Unity or UE4, you can probably guess that we have no intention to work with Source again. That leaves us with the option to reboot Resistance and Liberation on a modern engine and with a fresh team, so we can finally achieve what we planned to do years ago. I believe with the tools available today and if we manage to find people who are as dedicated to making games in their spare time as we are, this will be a lot easier than it was ten years ago.

But if we want to pull this off, we will need your support! So let us know if you want Resistance and Liberation to rise again and if you happen to look for ways to make use of your afternoons and evenings or want to fill your portfolio with some kickass art work, drop me a message.

Are you guys ******* kidding me you guys actually have progress on the source engine version, and that game still has a community. The reason people still play that game is because it is good even though its not finished imagine how many people would play it if you guys could ******* try again it would be the most popular mod on the market that's all I would play I mean, all those other engines dont have big fan basses for mods, in my opinion the source engine is way better and on top of that it has a huge *** fan base for full games and mods i mean think about it a little more please. Source is the only good looking engine that can still run on low end computers and there are more low end computers then high end so please dont look past this comment think about it, even if the source engine is a little buggy or whatever the problem might be just work past it. Please I beg of you and so do the people that still play RnL it has a bigger fan base than you might think, trust me think about it.

I don't think I trust you. Source engine is quite garbage, and the only reason the project just fell apart is because it has bugs that cannot be solved. Because of the source engine.

Well, it's been six years since the original had its last release, the mod community for HL2 is at a fraction of what it used to be - everyone's indie now.

Source 2013 isn't much more than a polished set of their 2009 toolset which was dated back then already and just feels archaic nowadays and the Steam Hardware survey shows that the majority of gamers are on a Win7 machine with quad cores, 4gigs of Ram and a sort of decent video card.

So no, I don't think higher hardware requirements would hold this project back too much. Personally I wouldn't even have a PC as old as what I had back then to profile the mod against and make sure it runs on hardware / software that old.

Holy **** , I remember This. Haha. It felt like Red Orchestra, but Infantry only in CS-sized maps. Wasn't to bad, either.

I don't know if I'd pay for it though...not unless it improved massively in every regard.

I can understand your desire to move away with Source, with so many easier alternatives today.

I have a few game developing friends and they said this to me about it:

"Source, you can do anything you want to, but it takes alot of time, and hammer is a bitch."

"Unreal Engine 3 / 4, it's so easy to develop for, it's even fun, you're limited in scope to a degree, but you can progress so much faster on many things"

So you want to go against Festung Europa (UE4) and Traction Wars (Cryengine 4)?

Are either one of those even real released games? Traction Wars doesn't even have GIs as far as I remember. And neither has actually ever been released.

I wouldn't say we are going to go against them. Infact, I have a whole lot of respect for anyone who ships something of that scale for free or as indie studio.

Also, back when RnL was made, there was room for RnL, DoD:S, Red Orchestra and even the original DoD - why not now?

Then they are way ahead of us, too which makes it hard to predict if we are even going to go "against" them.

Last but not least, at least I am working on this game because I want to make it, not because I have a razor sharp calculation that tells me I can ship 2 million units by christmas 2016, if I manage to beat competitor X.

So yes, we're keeping these games in mind, but not in the sense of "racing" them.

So is the Cry3 version off? Everywhere you can buy servers for Cry3, it's 16 players max. That doesn't fit RnL's style IMO.

Short answer: Yes, it is off. Not because of the amount of players though, as there's no limit as to how many players can be on a server other than server resources. The long answer is a bit more complex.

And agreed - We'll experiment with 32-64 players. 32 for the time being as the old maps have proven to work with that amount.

I'd be interested in playing any game that has the same player experience as RnL =).

I was playing it from the start, it died. I installed it again just to have fun, and found out there's a community that plays on Fridays, please continue doing this project <3

What really matters most to me is that the player experience and the feel you get in the game is identical to RnL.

There's really a sense of teamwork and working with your squad, using tactics, and just how the player has their limitations. I think those features really make the game better than others.

Well, since Traction Wars is coming out in year or two on CryEngine. I think you should merge with them since it would not have point making it again.

Look I know i cannot speak for the full community with this comment but at least listen in. If you are going to do it one last final reboot do it but do it right.

Stick to how the weapons played in the source version
Keep the local chat only system but refine it (That **** was great)
Keep the *3D Map*
...Pretty much try to keep or enhance every game-play aspect that was in the source version but for the love of god stay away from leaning towards the *Beta Build* so many people have hated that build.

Just do what ya guys can, try to be more in the loop with the community. We have been waiting for some sort of word for years now and keep looking at the Steam Group, a lot of people are in it and a lot of people want to see it finished.
