Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3D engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game. Oh, and did we mention it's FREE?

Post news Report RSS Gamma Tweaks, Fixes, Fixed Mirror

Modern systems are built expecting 64 bit applications and multi-threading. That's not the case for Gamma, and performance can suffer under certain circumstances. Here's some fixes you can make. Also, there appeared to be an error with the ModDB download. This has been corrected.

Important note: At time of writing, the 2.0.0 installer at ModDB has been fixed. Earlier this week, the installer available at ModDB would not work properly and would cause version mismatch errors. We apologize for the inconvenience. No other mirrors were affected.

Slowdowns running Gamma? We've got some solutions for you. One latency related issue apparently was caused by the hosting company responsible for providing bandwidth to our United States official server. We have since switched to a new company. If you experienced intermittent bursts of lag, we hopefully should have corrected this by way of the server change.

If your framerate is poor, it may be easy to explain. The game is very heavily bound to the CPU, and unfortunately it can only run on a single core. Modern hardware often has several smaller cores as a cost efficient solution, but these smaller cores tend to cause Gamma to choke up.

We have some client optimizations coming, but there are a few things you can do to help your performance. One easy fix to test is to start your task manager, find the Game.EXE process in the processes listing, right click it, and then set its "CPU Affinity" to be "CPU 1." Be sure to deselect all other CPU options, so that it will only run on "CPU 1" (which is your second core). After doing so, you can also right-click the Game.EXE process and "Set Priority" to a higher level.. "High Priority" as an option should help. However, without the use of freely available third party tools, you will need to repeat this process every time you play.

Other options include, obviously enough, reducing your resolution, switching between windowed/fullscreen, decreasing the various shadow settings, and turning off particles and surface effects in your graphics control panel in the launcher.

Still running a bit slow, or having control input issues? There are some more in depth fixes you can apply to get framerates approaching those you might have had in older versions. For an in depth performance adjustment guide, please check this topic at the official forums.

We have been conducting many tests and experiments on the client software, and as a result of these tests, we now have determined several key adjustments that we can make to help speed the game up. These adjustments will take further experimentation on our side to get right, but will begin to be released as part of our planned series of monthly patches.

What's that, we're talking about Gamma tweaks? If you missed the last news update, you're in for a treat. After years of work, APB 2.0.0, better known as Gamma, is out to the public! Unfortunately, the ModDB download mirror was incorrect and only recently updated. Please check out the release news for more details! Then, be sure to download your copy! If you previously downloaded 2.0.0 via ModDB (prior to this news article), you will need to uninstall that and reinstall using the fixed installation program.

Be sure to check out the new player orientation video and glance at the infantry summaries available under the "manual" and "unit overview" pages in the updated launcher. Short video overviews are underway and will be added in soon.

I know this question is older than time itself, but can we ever hope to see an official(Developed by the APB team) campaign for this, single or multiplayer?

Again, I know this was on the drawing board really early in dev, and then dropped. But those bot maps just don't do the capability of this justice.

We'd like one, but I have to admit that there is no work being done on one at this moment beyond a concept stage.
