A quick introduction into the world of The Rake...

Posted by on

The Rake is a fun project for me. To me it is the beginning of a journey, it symbolizes the years of education and blood/sweat/tears shed to get to the point where I can work on games, it capitalizes on everything I've ever done up to this point.
This is the beginning of my era.

To the game, it is designed to be my take on a thriller / horror themed first person adventure. It aims to bring people to quickly look away form the monitor, it aims to genuinely terrify. So in this sense, this is also a "study" game, an experiment if you will, into a realm I've never traversed down before.

This said, no cheap "popup scares". Because there are technically (at this time of writing, may change in the future) no real enemies that you can combat in this title, there's no need to attempt to frighten you by the sheer amount of damage anything can do to you, nor is there any point in spawning anything right behind your either. This title aims to provide chilling visuals and animation (to make your skin crawl), expertly timed musical score and foley work, pacing that will force you forward into uncomfortable situations you'd rather not be apart of, and most of all make it fun to play and not frustrating.

This games biggest influences in terms of design and overall inspiration include:
Silent Hill PSX
Slenderman
Resident Evil 2
Amnesia
Fatal Frame

I hope you will join me on this adventure, I always appreciate feedback, and of course, would like to know what frightens YOU the most

Till next time everyone;
Cheers,

~K
