Description
Two genres collide in this puzzle-game shoot-em-up mashup! Build massive chains to unleash bullet hell! Play with a friend or battle 9 AI opponents.
History
Puzzleshmup started in 2011. I was watching a friend in class play Touhou, a bullet-hell shmup series, and thought the rectangular play area looked like a puzzle board. That's when I had the idea of making a puzzle/shmup hybrid game. Another friend, Josh Arlitt, independently had the same idea and together we fleshed out the concept. The game play is similar to the puzzle series Puyo Puyo, but when you create chains (puzzle combos), instead of sending garbage blocks to your opponent, you send bullet patterns.
Puzzleshmup is coded in C# with Monogame, an open-source framework for game creation and the successor to XNA.
