Project Boxing is a boxing simulation game.

It's a fighting game where you take the role of a boxer. You are able to throw flurries of punches and dodge, weave and guard yourself against your opponent.

It's a project I've been working on for a while now, and being a big fan of boxing - I'm determined to make it the best boxing game out there.

I do boxing training in real life, and get advice from real boxers/trainers on technique. I've been attempting to translate this into the gameplay.

Gameplay

Full fledged boxing simulation game!

  • Different punch types: Jabs, straights, hooks and uppercuts.
  • Blocking system: React to the opponents punches with positional blocking.
  • Dodging system: Weave, dodge and counter your opponents throws with a manually controlled dodging system!
  • Physics: Behind all the animations is a physics system. Leading to realistic mechanics, such as the damage of a punch is dependent on the physical velocity.
  • Reactive AI: The AI will learn from your play and try to counter it. Different personalities will also take a role in how you opponent fights (aggressive, conservative).

Career mode!

  • Join an offline career mode simulating the lifestyle of a professional boxer.
  • Customize your boxer (facial appearance, body proportions, hair style..).
  • Buy different gear.
  • Train your boxer in different areas.
  • Sign contracts against bigger boxers.
  • Progress through the rankings to eventually be named champion.
  • Fully simulated boxing world: Other boxers will train, fight each other and have rivalries.

Two player mode!

  • Plug in another controller and play against each other.

Scope

Depending on how the game goes, I may add multiplayer and also hire voice actors to do live commentary over the boxing match.

The game is in it's early stages at the moment, the core boxing match mechanics are there but a lot more polish is needed.

Hello all! Sorry been a little while since the last post, it's been hard to find the time. I thought I'd give a quick update things which have been worked on:

  • Positional blocking system, arms will move according to stop jabs and hooks to the head and body.

  • Improved boxer models, now more customizable in terms of facial features and muscle definition.

  • Improved the foot movement system, boxer moves a lot more realistically.

  • Improved the lighting and added volumetric capability.

  • Boxers will lean into their punches now depending on their distance from each other.


The features being worked on at the moment include knockouts, cinematic ring entrance, boxer customization, visual damage (cuts, etc) and much more.

In terms of the head movement, will it be limited to how we see it now or will we see a more complete movement system for the game, i.e being able to execute a step back counter and then move quickly out of range, used to love seeing mayweather pull this off

No head movement is still a WIP. For eg I'm looking to increase it or decrease it depending on a boxers attributes. The foot movement is being worked on too, so quickly moving out of range like the example you gave could be done.

Brilliant, will there be any new videos been following keenly on twitter, how are the knockdowns coming? Also is there animations for boxers getting back up yet?

I've just been a bit busy recently, I'll try and get more updates out soon. Knockdowns have been worked on, I've got 3 different 'get up' animations and another for the referee counting. I'm a lot more focused on getting the movement better atm. Going between a wide slow moving stance to a more jogging-like movement to get away from the opponent + pivoting.

I'm not sure if I'm making a demo. I'm putting it out on steam early access in August though.

Basically the boxing match with a few different random boxers to choose from. Philly shell will be implemented.

Will we be able to create a boxer and share them say through the steam workshop? Or will the first version just include the premade boxers?

Funny you said that. I'm literally writing a boxer creator now, my steam developer license has now been approved so hopefully I can integrate with steam workshop.

Finally! Ive been saying for year's a boxing game thay has a community driven database is the way forward, we all know the issues with getting the rights to boxers, wwe 2k18 implemented it prefectly in allowing the community to continuously keep the game up to date with the real world as well as creating fantastic replicas of wreslters from other promotions

Yes I agree! I mean I haven't seen wwe2k18 creator but it probably won't be to the same level as that.. realistically. I've got blendshapes to make different facial features, muscle mass, fat, height, skin colour etc using sliders. Maybe it'll be enough. I'll post a video of where I'm up to with it.

Yes i was in no way implying i was expecting it to be tbay detailed, i just meant that as an example of how allowing the community to create expands the replayability, in a similar way fight night round 4/champion had the boxer share feature
