It probably doesn't come as a big surprise that Prisonscape will be doing a crowdfunding campaign in the near future. We've been on the planning stage for a while now, and even though we were planning on doing a Kickstarter campaign, it turned out to be a too much of a hassle, and decided to go with more stress-free IndieGoGo. We probably won't be making us much money as from KS, but they've been very helpful with us and the amount of bureaucracy for running a campaign from Finland is ridiculous.
Excuse me mister - how much each of these will delay the game?
We have made two key decisions about our campaign - there won't be any physical rewards (except for the highest pledge levels and these items will be goddamn unique artifacts!) and there won't be any stretch goals that add more game content like character customization, new areas or animations, etc. We know that these are extremely popular and often help campaigns to gain a lot more money than they initially anticipated, but we have a good reason to not include them in the campaign - stretch goals and physical rewards tend to delay the release of the game.
This won't be a IGG reward.
Physical rewards, such as t-shirts, are a huge time sink. You have to design, order and post them around the world. Stretch goals can be really great when they are well-planned and are logical expansion to the game, but our number one goal at the moment is to finish and release the game. There is a small possibility that we'll do translations or some other kind of stretch goals that can be done parallel with our development, but it's probably too early to plan things like this until we see how the campaign goes.In other words, our goal is to get enough money to pay for graphics, music and sound effects and maybe get a few months salary so that we can concentrate 100% on finishing the game.
Kickstarter will get you more publicity though...
