Arrrr, avast me hearties! T’morrow be “Talk Like A Pirate Day” (Sept 19th) – so polish that hook, put on yer best eyepatch and let yer inner pirate out! Here be a video o’ Cap’n Red Beard havin’ a lil’ talk with Annha about me favourite day of the year, aye!

Aside from spreading the word about “Talk Like A Pirate Day” and having a laugh (or not) this video also has some deeper game relevance actually. It shows how we want to implement speech in our game: text bubbles + audio jibberish. Why no full-blown voice acting? a) Because hiring voice actors and the localisation of those files would blow our budget and b) jibberish can be more charming and suitable in a cartoony game like ours than real speech. Banjo Kazooie did it much better than Mario Sunshine in our eyes ears. Moving the camera and an indicator which person is talking has also finally become a reality. However it is just a mock-up and nowhere near a final implementation, so bear in mind that it does not represent the final quality. We hope you’ll enjoy it nonetheless. Don’t forget to get your sky pirate on tomorrow, I know we will! ;)

I highly anticipating this game. Good 3d platformers are few and far between since the Gamecube. Keep it up.

this is good, maybe the gibberish is a little too repetitive.
didnt banjo and kazooie only have the sound whenever a new block of text showed up?

Nope. They continuously played sound as the text appeared. They really nailed it!

Jibberish works for games like these, I would add some variation, though.
