Beta release: the second iteration of Pirate Fight! (name STILL in progress)

What's New and Why?

  • 2 teams of 2 boats each.
    • Motivation: It was hard to learn, and there was not enough positive feedback in the tutorial because players could row left while their teammate rowed right.

  • Chest no longer closes.
    • Motivation: It was arbitrary to close the chest in intervals, and it didn't encourage team interaction as much as we'd hoped.

  • Revamped the lighting (dark theme).
    • Motivation: We added a dark lighting as it adds some flair to the game and makes it more exciting with some more juice.

  • Cannons can no longer move.
    • Motivation: The control scheme for aiming while rowing and shooting was terribly complicated and discouraged players from moving the cannon at all.

  • Cannons now have (basic) charging laser-sights.
    • Motivation: To compensate for lack of aiming, we now allow players to see where their shots will go. Likewise, charging will allow players to make faster shots, and will force them to either shoot instantly or take their time and plan a shot.

  • General physics changes.
    • Boats get heavier with more coins: Adds a negative feedback loop to carrying too many coins.
    • Less bouncy environment: Boats now feel more realistic to maneuver.
    • Chest now has a Rigidbody: Allows players to move the chest (through shooting or bumping into it) to perhaps make their opponents miss their coin-deposit-shots.

  • Coin scarcity managed "scientifically".
