Operation Homunculi is a stealth/horror game where you must navigate through an eerie prison. You can use mysterious stealth abilities to avoid, distract, and control the freaks of nature you find lurking in the cells and hallways — but make sure you’re not caught off guard, you can’t fight back!
This week our game saw many environmental improvements. We totally restructured the level, really leaning into the prison/experiment aesthetic. In this vein, we added a great deal of textures and assets — like rough concrete and real light fixtures. We also switched from using a directional light for real time shadows and point lights for emphasis to a combination of baked and realtime spotlights. Additionally, we updated the player HUD to be more visually pleasing.
There were also many improvements to the enemy AI. It was updated to include intermediary states between patrolling (not suspicious of player) and alerted (suspicious of player). We also made adjustments to communicate enemy states to the player, largely by adding more sounds, like shrieks and footsteps.
Next week we want to focus on expanding the level and adding more objects in the scene; like dynamic monitors with text/camera feed.
