OpenTyrian is an arcade-style vertical scrolling shooter. The story is set in the year 20,031 where you play as Trent Hawkins, a skilled fighter-pilot employed to fight Microsol and save the galaxy. February 2007 the Pascal source code for Tyrian was licensed for a small group of developers to re-write it in C, in a project named OpenTyrian, licensed under the GNU General Public License. Following that announcement, in April 2007 Daniel Cook announced the free availability of his Tyrian artwork under generic liberal terms.

Awesome game. It has great controls, good graphics (for a 1995 DOS game that is) and a memorable soundtrack. I also like the ship and weapon upgrade system and the fact that it is possible to take several hits before losing a life, which makes it a less hardcore game than some others of this genre.
After playing the shareware version a gazillion times back in the 90's it feels good to finally being able to finish this little gaming gem.

My favorite arcade game of all time, maybe nostalgic but maybe it is just great.

The best Top-Down Shoot-em-up game ever.

Just the same as original, very good game, high replayability value (for me).

If you enjoyed Raptor or River Raid as much as I did, you're gonna love this one. Upgrade your ship and plow through waves of enemies like a suicidal maniac. Hardly any other game can provide such simple, but challenging and rewarding gameplay.

My old favourite... I played many many hours with this outstanding game, when I was a child. ^^

Brings back my childhood.

It's a 10 here. =D

Slick gameplay with a slick soundtrack, writing that is constantly leaving me laughing, surprises both good and frustrating, and really, I can pilot a giant carrot? I love this game!
