Olvand is a little multiplayer sandbox RPG, where the players live in self-built towns and can go on all kinds of adventures together. Imagine living with your friends in a small town in the mountains, or creating a new group of friends in a pub in the metropole you all live in. There will be several mini-games the inhabitants of a server can play together, among which will be combat based games like King of the Hill or Capture the Flag. You will be able to play against other people in your city, or as a city against another city, or as a whole server against another server. The combat works with self-built guns, in which all kinds of powers can be combined to create unique effects.

Finally, now Glux is working, I can start to enjoy all the new possibilities. Read here some new stuff I'm working on.

Hi all! Last week, I happily announced that the release would be last Sunday, but since then two unexpected things happened. The first one was the Desura acception process: although I uploaded Olvand v10.0 last Saturday evening, it wasn't before Wednesday that I was accepted. The Desura guys always check whether your game actually works and then publish it to the world within a few hours, but apparently they were busy. Unfortunately, when they finally accepted it, the site went down. This is not only needed for registration, it's also the login server, which means the game can't be played at the moment. I'm using a part of a server my friend rents, so he's working it out with the hosting company. Sorry guys, but the invites still will come soon!

These extra days doesn't really slow down development, fortunately (apart maybe from that five extra emails that I had to write to impatient people who thought they still weren't invited): now that Glux is fully implemented and working, I'm happily enjoying the many benefits OpenGl gives me. For example, I implemented Glux animations, which makes fire a lot more pleasing to the eye:

Furthermore, it is now supereasy is to project text over the world view. With SDL that gave all kind of problems with partially updating the screen and stuff like that, but since OpenGL can quicly update the whole screen (and forces me to do so all the time, too), this is no longer a problem. Now, when you enter a new area (for example, the city you just created), it is shown in big letters in the upper part of you screen, GTA-style.

This not only looks nice (I think), it also solves a problem I often noted in videos: people don't really seem to be aware of the 'territory toggle' shown below, which shows you which areas in the game have been conquered by a city, and thus never really knew where one city begins and the other ends.

Next up: making these letters go away too :P. And other interesting Glux-related stuff I can do now, but couldn't before. I can't wait!

If you want more development, see [twitter] or [facebook]. If you want to be a tester, you can subscribe on [olvand.com].

Hey, development process sometimes can suffer delays, that's part of the beauty behind creating a game with the community actively watching the creative process :). But you are very kind explaining the reasons to us!
