The origin of the name Maia comes from Maiabaleana which is an extinct genus of baleen whale from the Oligocene of Oregon 33 million years ago consisting of one species.
The name makes sense since the our Maia is a mystical whale with how you can see has a quite peculiar way of swimming. Just by her movement you can definitly tell Maia's is not an ordinary whale.
