Metal Drift is a futuristic arena combat game in drift-tanks. It is team-based with online multiplayer. You can level up your player and your weapons over time to unlock more weapons and upgrades for your tank. Metal Drift features 56 different tank configurations with various weapon and upgrade selections to choose from. In addition, the drift-tanks have a unique energy system that allows the pilot to direct acquired energy into a speed boost or to power up weapons for extra damage. The game also features 5 different arenas, each with their own racing lines and boost tunnels.

Post news Report RSS Xbox 360 Controller + Metal Drift = Awesome

I decided to play around with some joystick emulators and have made a pretty good 360 controller setup in Metal Drift.

I've been playing Metal Drift with an Xbox 360 controller for a few hours now, and thought other folks might want to try it. I'm using a joystick emulator to emulate the keyboard presses, but it's turned out pretty well. Here's how to do it!

1. Download JoyToKey

JoyToKey is a lightweight joystick emulator that manages to have really solid and smooth functionality. It's better than other ones I've used in the past (don't know if it's the BEST, but it works great), and most importantly has cursor movement emulation.

2. Download this .cfg file

I pieced together this .cfg file with the controls set up to the way I wanted. Once downloaded, put it in the root folder of JoyToKey. You can go ahead and change it as desired; it's a great template if nothing else.

3. Run JoyToKey

Run JoyToKey in the background, being careful not to press buttons now that they're mapped to keyboard functions. :)

4. Profit!

Load up Metal Drift and play around! Let me know what you think of the new control scheme. Do you find it harder or easier?

Great post! I thought I'd share my own config here as well:

In my config I set the right trigger to boost, and the left to zoom. This is mostly because Joy2Key can't recognize both at once so I picked two actions you would never be doing at the same time.

I also set B to 'TAB' so you can view scores, and made Y the 'power weapon' key, X the 'use upgrade' and A dual function as both boost and menu selection (enter).

Then I used the right bumper for 'fire' and the left bumper for 'center camera'.
