Many of you - especially those of you who, like myself, are from Australia - will have heard by now of the devastating bushfires which have been raging in the Australian states of Victoria (especially) and New South Wales since late last week. As of this writing, the fires in Victoria alone are known to have killed more than 180 people, with the death toll expected to rise to above 200 and possibly above 300. Last I heard about 500 people had been treated for burns, and 100 of them had been hospitalised. Over 330,000 hectares have been burnt out and nearly 1000 homes destroyed. In some cases entire towns have been levelled. These are officially the worst bushfires in Australia’s history; an especially big deal considering that Australia is claimed to be the most fire-prone country in the world.
At times like these, it is up to the rest of us Aussies to help, knowing that the people affected would do the same if our positions were reversed. That's why
I’m pledging 50% of proceeds from sales of my indie game towards helping victims of these devastating bushfires,
dating back from the day the fires took hold (7th February) and lasting until the end of this month. The money will be sent to the Australian Red Cross's bushfire appeal fund. Those interested in donating directly can do so on their website.
More details on my blog.
"Hang on, what indie game? And why should I buy it?"
This one! Mayhem Intergalactic, a game with rich strategy, yet simple rules. Mayhem Intergalactic is a game which only takes 5-15 minutes per session, yet has enough depth and replayability to keep you occupied for hours at a time
In a nutshell, Mayhem Intergalactic is a turn-based 4X strategy game. It provides a streamlined version of the gameplay found in other turn-based strategy games, freeing you from resource micromanagement and letting you concentrate on actual strategy. See this earlier news post containing gameplay details, or watch the video below:
Why buy it? Well, firstly because it's awesome (in my entirely humble opinion - *cough*), and secondly because if you buy before February ends, you'll be helping out a bunch of people in need. It's a win-win-win situation.
Still not convinced? That's OK; I don't expect you to buy anything blind. Check out the free demo below to see if you like the game.
You're a champ for doing this, mate! You can bet I'll buy this game.
You're really a nice guy. Thanks for helping out those poor people.
Although I can't say the game interests me much, my heart does go out to the people who have suffered and are still suffering from the bushfires, and much respect goes to those who help those victims.
So good on you for doing this mate, much respect, and best of wishes for the sales ;)
Since I'm not good for words, I say what they all said.
Looks like a decent game and i'm from Australia so i guess i'll pitch in :)
as already said, top bloke for doing this, I'll probably grab a copy as well.
Very noble, having seen a very destructive bushfire up close I can tell you all first hand about how bad these things really are. If you can support these guys who have lost everything. Keep it up man!
good on ya... im from Australia aswell and i will definately be buying the game..
Seems us aussies are good modders / game devs - i've donated to the cause and hope others can dig deep too.
Good for you! Hope you get lots of sales. :)
Yah seen all these fires on the news looks really bad the world seems to be getting worse and worse with all these recessions etc. Nice way of donating stuff to people hope you do well on this.
yeah i will buy it aswell. i dont buy indie games but this guy deserves the sale and the victims need help.
Nothing bad or so. but it seems like this is just a bad sales trick
Believe me when I say that 50% of my revenue is a significant chunk of money. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for a good cause.
The point is to encourage people to donate. If you'd prefer to donate directly, great! That's even better. I'm merely providing an additional incentive to push the stragglers over the line. :)
If you prefer to cut out the middleman (always a good idea), then I encourage you to visit the Australian Red Cross's website directly to make a secure online donation:

Thanks!
I was talking to Alfred from valve and this might be on a steam news popup. :P
Thanks for the words of support everyone! :)
Good idea, I live in Warragul so I was lucky that I didn't get hit by the fires at Drouin West.
