We are currently working really hard to improve the core gameplay of "Lynn and the Spirits of Inao" since it's what will make the game experience good or bad for the player. Nevertheless, we don't forget that the user interface is playing a huge part in the gaming experience. The Start-screen is the first visual contact the player will have with the game and we can't afford to rush it if we want to draw the player's attention.
Here is how the rough of the Start-screen looked before :
Of course it has been greatly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki's work since we are huge fans of japanese animation. We wanted to show how deep the island of Inao was and used this perspective in order to make the player feel like there is a lot of thing to explore.
Here is how the start screen looks now :
Even if it's a Work in Progress we are quite satisfied with the result : there is still more improvement to do since it lacks of atmospheric perspective and that some textures are still "rough" but we assume it will make a good first contact with the player. We will add more details since we have to show (or suggest) every place the player will have to explore (adding cristal mine texture on the moutain for example).
The next step ? Make it animated with After effect in order to give more deepness to the scene and to put shiny stars in the eye of the player before he plays the game ;)
