Lynn and the Spirits of Inao is a 2D action / plateformer for PC/MAC, mobile devices (iOS/Android) and Wii U (under consideration). The story takes place on the island of Inao, an enchanting place where humans and spirits live in harmony with one another. Lynn, our main character is the young apprentice of the high priestess of the Isle, and despite how clumsy she is, she will have to calm down the anger of the island’s spirits to save everyone. But Lynn will not be alone ! During her journey, she will meet Aku, a friendly demon who will gradually become her best friend and help her to achieve her noble quest.

The island of Inao is a 2D open world like Metroid or Castelvania : the island is full of secrets and by acquiring new skill Lynn will be able to explore places she couldn’t reach before. The main town is a peacefull place where you start the game : there will be no monsters and you will be able to rest, shop, play mini games and talk with the villagers: they will provide you with side quests and a lot of fun. If you like games where you need to collect everything to have a “100%” display on your screen, Lynn and the Spirits of Inao is made for you since there will be a lot of secret places to discover.

As you can see, the game design have been influenced by the work of Hayao Miyazaki and even if we know that we are not half the man he is, we are working hard to provide gamers with a nice visual experience . By developing "Lynn and the spirits of Inao", we also wanted to make a tribute to the Disney’s action/plateformer games from the Genesis/Snes era. (Aladdin, The lion king…) Those games were providing us with a gameplay that was simple, precise and deep but were also wonderful visual experiences. Walt Disney animation movies did get a lot of games adaptations but we were a bit disappointed that Miyazaki, who is a really awesome artist, didn’t have the same “treatment”. We hope that our game will provide gamers with the same enchanting "spirit" :)

We are currently working really hard to improve the core gameplay of "Lynn and the Spirits of Inao" since it's what will make the game experience good or bad for the player. Nevertheless, we don't forget that the user interface is playing a huge part in the gaming experience. The Start-screen is the first visual contact the player will have with the game and we can't afford to rush it if we want to draw the player's attention.

Here is how the rough of the Start-screen looked before :

Start-screen rough

Of course it has been greatly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki's work since we are huge fans of japanese animation. We wanted to show how deep the island of Inao was and used this perspective in order to make the player feel like there is a lot of thing to explore.

Here is how the start screen looks now :

Even if it's a Work in Progress we are quite satisfied with the result : there is still more improvement to do since it lacks of atmospheric perspective and that some textures are still "rough" but we assume it will make a good first contact with the player. We will add more details since we have to show (or suggest) every place the player will have to explore (adding cristal mine texture on the moutain for example).

The next step ? Make it animated with After effect in order to give more deepness to the scene and to put shiny stars in the eye of the player before he plays the game ;)

Hello! Your character models have that Miyazaki look plus your own flair. Very nice! Hit me up on twitter @I_R_Bryan. I'd love to talk with you about fleshing out some characters for my action Rpg. Learn more at Swordstack.tumblr.com. The game looks fun too, is it a story puzzler?
