As a hurricane nears the marshy lowlands between South Carolina and Georgia, an evil has taken root and seeks to raise the dead. He only needs one thing, your blood!

After drinking too much at the beach and passing out, you wake up in the decrepit cabin of a madman. Through his insane ramblings you vaguely determine that he means to cut out your heart for some kind of ancient ritual. All you know is you have to escape.

When he turns his back for a moment, you manage to get free and burst through the door of the cabin to find yourself surrounded by never ended swamp and forest. Torrential rainfall pelts your skin as you hear him discover your escape. You have to find help. Most of the area has evacuated ahead of the hurricane, but surely someone is left. A passing car... A working telephone. All you know is, you can't stay here.

You have to run, but where? You're lost... in Low Country!

Low Country (Typically spelled Lowcountry down south) is a first person horror stealth game. You play as an unnamed party goer who was enjoying the hurricane parties at the beach who wakes up in a nightmare.

The game has been constructed to closely resembled the 4x8 mile area between Savannah Georgia, I95 and Hilton Head, SC on the Atlantic Ocean. The south is famous for its lore and legends of hauntings and spiritual beings, both good and bad. This game seeks to show off some of the ghosts and legends, as well as the natural habitat of the area, framed against your escape from a psychotic madman.

Low Country will be a showcase for AI. Based on the same concept as Alien Isolation, the hunter will constantly be after you. You never know when he will show up, or how easily you'll be able to lose him. Armed with the senses of sight and sound, he will track your footsteps and your sounds. And even when you're incredibly careful, he knows the area far better than you, and will never be far behind!

A combination of AI and in game triggers will be somewhat randomized to provide a different play experience every time, and a sliding difficulty scale will determine how easily the hunter can find you and how easily you can get away.

Here are some screenshots from the first playable build!

Low Country

Thanks for takin a look at Low Country. Low Country is a first person survival horror set in the same vein as Alien Isolation, set in the real world swampy marshlands of South Carolina, known as the Lowcountry.

After playing Alien Isolation, I fell in love with the AI for the Alien. As a lover of AI, I set out to reproduce and hopefully improve on the AI with my very own "hunter". Being a proud inhabitant of an area of the United States with a rich history and tons of legends of spooky creatures and evil ghosts, I thought where better to set the game than my own back yard.

Low Country features a faithfully adapted terrain, representing a 4x8 mile stretch of marsh land between Interstate 95 and the Atlantic Ocean, just above the Savannah River between South Carolina and Georgia.

The "Hunter" in Low Country is ruthless and unstoppable; you can't hope to defeat him, only escape. Using his sense of sght, hearing and knowledge of the land he will never be far behind you. To escape you must either be lucky enough to find a passing car which leaves you in the open, or you must find a working phone and call for help, while surviving his relentless onslaught. You may even run into some other scary creatures that typically inhabit the swampland.

The game is currently a working prototype with a functioning hunter and a few areas set up with places to hide and escape. Further, I have put in some place holder audio to establish mood, and pacing. I am hoping to start beta testing it very soon, so if you're interested, drop me a line, or follow the game on twitter!

Without further ado here are some of the new pictures and video clips from the game!

There is a famous old burned Church in this area of South Carolina. (There's even a road named for it)
