Is there any possibility of underground crops?

Yes! The game already has a variety of underground crops.
I've even toyed with the idea of having a level where the surface is covered with monsters and you have to survive underground until you are strong enough to take the surface.
You should do it. That's one of the things that gives Dwarf Fortress its charm. Getting stuck between the the perils of the surface and the deep.
