Loose pixels is a basic tower defense with retro graphics, and some smaller innovations in the TD genre.
Four colors are used for achieving the retro looks, I'll use dithering for more possibilities, and both sounds an music will be chiptune.
The game campaign tells the story of a game tester, who has to find and eliminate glitches and bugs in the game versions, the developers give him.The dev team publishes many demos, which get reactions from the players. The game will also have some point & click elements, I'm not sure yet, how this will work out, depending on tests and feedback, it'll be more or less dominant.
As this is a real 3d game, I'm aiming to create really 3d levels, with units climbing walls, even some flying glitches moving in a 3d path. The game will have tower development options, and towers will have some extra abilities. Towers can be created on moving platforms or the side of cliffs too. In the game, besides towers, some extra helpers will be availables, also defenders, which are moving units going against the glitches, and also potions, these make towers faster, stronger, have a bigger range or give an ability.
It started as a tower defense "engine" for a project I was, and am still planning, but I'll now try to finish it as a full game.
I've uploaded the second demo, which contains some enhancements in the gameplay, and also lots of new levels.
It shows the new UI, new gameplay elements, 8 different levels and more various attackers.
I also started creating different themes for the different levels, e.g. there is a Koi-Pond theme going on for a few levels, and there is a 80's city theme for others.
It has some new sound effects, some more helpful opening texts and the overall gameplay itself is more stable now.
The next step will be to create the tower chooser menu, where the player can decide, which towers will they choose in the game.
For now, the computer part is not yet visible, but hopefully the third demo will show that too.
The demo can be played here:
I've got some feedback from the latest demo, some design changes will be made in the next one. The game does look more retro with the new UI effects...
I've uploaded a new version for the demo, I mostly tested the desktop version, and realised, that in browser, some features have to be changed. I'll try...
I've posted a demo on Kongregate, it is HTML5, so some graphical elements were changed for that, but it represents current gameplay quite well.
I've created a new video of the UI and the gameplay, this will be the final gameplay until the demo, what is missing are a few demo maps.
