Proudly Presented to you by Zearsoft

Liberius is a game being developed by me, Haydn Sawyer, for my one-man company, Zearsoft. In this game, you rule an Empire, which has plans to take over the world, and eliminate all opponents. This game however, is much more complex than that, and you will need to do many things to even start the beginning of your empire.

The World is made up of small chunks called Tiles. Each and every tile has a Biome. There are many Biomes in Liberius, and each one has different values onto it every time, but it uses a base. All values appear in game. There are 3 Values on all Biomes, but then for 1 value there are sub-values which are used to determine a Grand Value.

Space - Space is a value that determines how many more Monsters you can have once you have successfully conquered this area. Since Monsters have a Mass value, this only allows for more Monsters to be placed, not a fixed amount however.

Richness - Richness is a value that determines how many minerals there are in the area. Some location have absolutely appalling richness values, because there are very few minerals in there. You will want to look for a place which has a high richness rating very quickly, since getting minerals is a very important part in Liberius. However, the more you mine into the Biome, the lower and lower the ore's richness value becomes, which means that the overall richness value also decreases.

Age - Age is a value that changes over time. Each Biome has an maximum age, and when it goes past that maximum age, the biome becomes a Wasteland biome. Wasteland biomes are actually useless. However, once the Wasteland Biome's age is past it's highest, it becomes an entirely new biome, with more values than it had last time (they simply increase, the Wasteland Biome does not decrease any values). This means as time passes by, you will want to get the land quicker than ever, since their values will skyrocket eventually, and that means you can end up with an extremely large army, which should breeze past all it's opponents.

Each and every time you generate a new world in this game, the world looks brand new... completely brand new. Even if it's appearance looks similar, the Biome stats will more than likely be completely different to what you had last time (to a certain extent, there is a minimal and maximal value of each that the stats cannot go under or over).

Onto Monsters. Monsters are a tricky concept to understand, but are very clever. Each Species of Monster has their own cards. These cards are very special, as when you put them down, the Monster comes to life, and generates itself some stats, using it's species base. Sometimes, these stats can be very good, or very bad, it is all, in theory, luck. There are 4 stats a Monster has:

  • Health - Determines how much 'life' the Monster has. If health reaches 0, the Monster dies and you lose your Monster.
Attack - Determines how much damage your Monster does, if you set it as a fighter.
Defence - Determines how much damage you reduce when you are attacked.
  • Mining Efficiency - Determines how efficient your Monster is at Mining if you select it as a miner.

So, you then have two classes to choose from; a Fighter (a Warrior), or a Miner. Miners are quite important at the start, so you might want to make one of those if it has a pretty decent Mining Efficiency. However, as time passes on, you will see that having lots of Fighters is much more important. However, each Monster also has a Mass rating, which means the Tile's Space Value will decrease by the Monster's Mass value when you place the Monster down and select it's class. This is the one value on Monsters that is fixed.

To summarize, the aim of the game is to create a huge army, Monster by Monster, and ending up ruling the world, by destroying other Empires, or signing peace treaties with them.

Recent Updates at Zearsoft

News

Zearsoft is a small indie game development company, currently with 3 members (2 are on the IndieDB website, the other, however, is not). Today, I would like to talk about recent updates that have been happening in Zearsoft.

So, first of all, I would like to happily announce the Acidicfriend and someone else outside of IndieDB have decided to join me, which I think is very good news. They joined through our job post. Both are composers, and should really help in the development at Zearsoft. I'm glad to have them on board.

The next thing is that I am currently working on a website, where all of Zearsoft's games will be posted, obviously so you can quickly check on updates. This website will have a News page, a page for each and every game, so it will prove much more useful. If you check regularly, you will get to know more on Liberius.

To conclude this, I would like to announce that Liberius has an estimated release date of March 2014! This may seem like quite a distance away, but it may appear even earlier than that, at least, I hope so.

Thank you for reading this quick update from Zearsoft,

- Haydn Sawyer (Leikaru)

Well, you'll have to wait and find out (if you can't wait, I'm looking for Pre-Alpha testers).

But I guess you could say it is a strategy game where you attempt to build a huge army of monsters that will rule your planet, and eventually, if you ever get to this stage, other planets.
