Kobo II is a fast paced physics based dual stick arena shooter that intends to bring the frantic retro arcade gameplay of the prequel Kobo Deluxe to old and new players alike, while offering a much smoother and more sophisticated experience.
Beyond the current single player survival mode, Kobo II will add on-line multiplayer, lobby, chat, a proper soundtrack, alternative player vehicles, lots of weapons, explosions, fire, smoke, shockwaves and much more.
Kobo II makes extensive use of structured and procedural techniques for high definition graphics, sound and music, without prohibitively massive downloads. (Currently 2 MB; will shrink as placeholder assets are replaced.) This also makes the game more scalable, and the assets easier to create, maintain and adapt as needed as the game design evolves.
Due to its engine design and extensive use of a safe, friendly scripting language, Kobo II will also lend itself well to modding, once the internals and interfaces begin to stabilize.
Yep, the other day, Kobo II was approved and went live on Indievania, starting with Tech Preview 3 for Windows. Buying it from there gives you a full version download link - no license files or keys needed! It is also possible to name your own price, should you think the current $3 is too low. ;-)
Proper Linux 32 and 64 bit builds will be made available as I get build systems in order. Meanwhile, there is an experimental Linux64 binary (from my development system) available from the official site, along with the engine source code, which is now Free/Open Source software. (GNU LGPL and zlib licenses.)

I remember the original Kobo. Can't wait to try this!
This looks pretty promising. Has a great old school look to it and gameplay already looks smooth!
Thanks!
More gameplay coming up real soon BTW - and parallax scrolling! Starting to look like a game now. ;-)
(And, I need to check my settings on this site. I don't see any trace whatsoever of new comments, unless I enter the very section they're in! That just doesn't work.)
